I am incredibly grateful to Golden Gate Funeral and Cremation Services and their entire staff for the outstanding care they provided for my brother’s funeral service. From Mr. Leon Walker in the beginning to Ms. Angela Husband at the end, everyone was extremely professional, compassionate, and attentive to our family’s needs during this difficult time. They made the process as smooth as possible and treated our family with the utmost respect and care. I truly appreciate everything they did for us and would highly recommend their services to anyone in need.

Our experience with Golden Gate Funeral Home after losing our daughter at approximately three months gestation was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable. On September 13, my husband contacted Golden Gate and spoke with Dawn. He explained that we had lost our daughter and wanted her cremated. Dawn told him there may be little to no remains because of her gestational age, but we understood and still wanted to proceed. We were also told the cremation would be $150, which was not a problem. The hospital completed paperwork allowing us to personally transport our daughter to the funeral home. When we arrived on September 15, Dawn told us she “doesn’t have time for this today” because she had other families to meet with. We explained that the hospital authorized us to transport our daughter and offered to show her the paperwork. Instead of compassionately explaining any policy or issue, Dawn told us, “We can’t do anything with this.” She then looked at our daughter and said there would be “little to nothing” left after cremation. We told her we understood and still wanted to proceed. She referred to our daughter as “product of conception” and stated, “This isn’t even a fetus.” She then told us our daughter would “shrivel up and be a blood spot” if cremated and said, “If I were you, I would bury her in the backyard.” Those words will stay with us forever. Our daughter was not “nothing” to us. She had a head, eyes, hands, and a developing little body. We were grieving parents trying to give our daughter a dignified and respectful goodbye. If Golden Gate could not provide the service we requested, we would have understood. Dawn could have simply explained that professionally and referred us elsewhere. There was absolutely no reason to speak about our daughter in such a dehumanizing and insensitive manner. Thankfully, another funeral home on the Kansas side treated our daughter and our family with compassion and dignity and helped us lay her to rest. Families come to funeral homes during some of the worst moments of their lives. Compassion and professionalism should be the bare minimum. Based on our experience, especially if you are experiencing pregnancy or infant loss, I strongly recommend seeking services elsewhere.

Losing my dad was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, and I will always be grateful for the care Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services provided to my family during that time. From the moment we entrusted my father to their care through the day we laid him to rest, we were treated with compassion, patience, dignity, and respect. Every detail mattered to us, and the Golden Gate team helped us honor him in a way that reflected the life he lived and the love our family has for him. I am thankful for the professionalism, compassion, and care our family received and would confidently recommend Golden Gate to another family needing someone they can trust with their loved one.
