Planning a funeral doesn't have to be overwhelming. At Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes, we carry out every aspect of funeral and cremation planning, giving you and your family peace of mind as you begin the healing process. While there are many important decisions to be made, you will work closely with our licensed funeral directors throughout the entire process. Evans-Nordby offers a variety of traditional funeral and cremation services, including environmentally-friendly options.
Our step-by-step guidance includes:
Planning a meaningful funeral, visitation, or memorial service.
Making key decisions for burial or cremation
Completing required legal documentation
Assisting with all the details involved
Following the death of your loved one, our staff will schedule an arrangement conference with you and your family to help you start planning the service. During this meeting, your funeral director will present your options, help you make decisions for a personalized ceremony and gather important information about your deceased loved one in order to complete necessary documents.
Questions we typically ask:
What type of service would you like?
Would you like a public or private viewing?
Do you have a cemetery in mind for burial? Do you own property there?
Do you have a location in mind for the service?
What you need to bring:
Social Security Number in order to file a death certificate
Photo(s) of deceased for obituary, printed items, and styling
Clothing and personal items if you would like a viewing
Veteran information, if applicable (DD214 document)
Notes and/or momentos to place with your loved one
While there are dozens of things you need to know and decide following the death of your loved one, our staff at Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes will guide you every step of the way to make the process as easy as possible.
Some services require the presence of a health care agent and the legal next of kin to make the decisions and sign off on forms.
Many people choose to personally pre-plan their funeral, just as they create their own will, arrange their inheritance, and plan an estate. In addition to providing peace of mind and ensuring that your wishes will be honored, pre-planning lifts the burden of funeral planning from your loved ones during a time of grief.
At Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes, we know that funeral arrangement decisions are deeply personal. Doug Stolt, our advanced planning specialist, is experienced with helping families and individuals with pre-planning. Our pre-planning options allow you to take the time you need to make arrangements reflecting your standards, lifestyle, interests and budget. We assure you and your family that the choices you make will be carried out as planned. Many people also like to set aside funds during the pre-planning stage to cover funeral costs.
Personalize the service and honor your loved one with a wide variety of memorial options. We provide many in-house resources as well as contact information to nearby vendors.
Our personalized memorials for funerals include:
Memorial folders
Memorial programs
Photo slideshow
Casket corners and medallions
Fingerprint & cremation jewelry
Personalized urn and urn keepsakes
Empire Memorials and Frazer Consulting are trusted manufacturers of unique and traditional memorials. Please visit their site for options and information on their products.
At Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes, we are deeply grateful for the veterans who have served our country. We always go above and beyond in preparing a ceremony that honors their sacrifices and lays them to rest with dignity.
Coordinating services for a Veteran involves a few extra steps, but we will guide you through the entire process. Once you have supplied your veteran’s discharge papers (DD214), your funeral director will complete the VA’s burial benefits forms, flag application and help you apply for other eligible benefits. We will also work with local Veterans groups to coordinate military honors into the service and/or schedule interment at a National or State Veterans Cemetery like Ft. Snelling or Minnesota State Veterans Cemeteries.
Cremation Urns, Jewelry, & Memorials
We offer a wide selection of cremation urns, jewelry, keepsakes, and other memorial products to remember and honor your loved one. Options include metal, wood, stone, and biodegradable urns; fingerprint jewelry; solid gold jewelry; and heirloom chests. Tina was very comforting to work with as we planned a celebration of life for my father. She thoughtfully guided me and my siblings through the many decisions to be made, was very responsive to every email and question that we had and connected us with a pastor that suited our family perfectly.

During the darkest moments of our lives the Evans Nordby team was there for us. Tina & Chelsea walked us through, step by step, letting us know what needed to be done and what our options were. Chelsea even helped us find the right contact at USPS (our son's employer) to notify them of his death. We are truly grateful for their professional handling of every detail while treating us with caring and compassion.
Frequently Asked Questions About Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes - Osseo
How Much Does a Funeral Cost?
The cost of a funeral varies depending on the services selected. If you would like a personalized estimate, please contact us to set up an appointment or discuss your options over the phone.
How Do I Compare Funeral Home Prices?
Make sure to take all goods and services into account when comparing prices with other funeral homes. Ask thorough questions to evaluate the quality of services being offered.
Keep in mind that our costs are mostly determined by the time we spend on each funeral and the use of our facilities, but many other factors also affect our prices. These include salaries, taxes, inventory, supplies, meetings, paperwork, continuing education, and more. The quality and workmanship of caskets, burial vault materials, and other merchandise also affect costs.
Does Your Funeral Home Handle Cremations?
Yes, we can assist with any type of funeral service, whether it’s a traditional funeral service, a visitation, a cremation with a memorial service, a cremation after a funeral service, an immediate burial, or an immediate cremation.
Do I Need to Buy a Vault?
Cemeteries usually require vaults, but not always. We can contact your preferred cemetery to inquire about their policies.
Is Embalming Required?
Except in certain cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements. The most common reason for embalming is public viewing. Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes, requires embalming for a public viewing and in some private viewing circumstances.
Embalming is required by Minnesota Statute 149A.91, subdivion 3, (use the link previously included) in the following circumstances:
If the body will be transported by public transportation
If the final disposition will not be accomplished within 72 hours of death and refrigeration or dry ice is not available
If so ordered by the commissioner of health ofr the control of infectious disease and the protection of the public health
Can I Have a Visitation and Funeral Service If I Choose Cremation?
Yes, you can still hold a public visitation and/or funeral service before cremation.
How Many Death Certificates Should I Order?
The number of death certificates you will need depends on the number of assets, accounts, or insurance policies of the deceased. Any asset, account, or insurance policy you need to close, change to a different name, or cash out will require a death certificate.
What Do We Do If a Death Occurs Far from Home?
Evans-Nordby Funeral Homes can still provide services if a death occurs far from here. Simply call us, and we will schedule transportation from the place of death to our facilities in Minnesota.
We also offer a Travel Plan that offers lifetime coverage of worldwide travel, providing peace of mind to families and individuals. Just one toll-free call begins the process of bringing the deceased home, and one of our funeral directors is always available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How Do I Apply for Veterans' Burial Benefits and/or Arranging Burial at Fort Snelling?
The deceased’s discharge papers (DD214) are required to apply for Veterans Benefits or to arrange for burial at a Veterans Cemetery. Your funeral director will complete the VA's burial benefit forms, obtain a flag, and schedule interment at a Veterans Cemetery such as Ft. Snelling National Cemetery or Minnesota State Veterans Cemeteries.
Am I Eligible for Social Security Survivors Benefits and How Do I Apply?
Eligibility for Survivors Benefits depends on several factors, including your age and relationship to the deceased. The application process may differ if you are currently receiving other Social Security benefits.
