- TFTaylor FixlerMay 11, 20263.0The program is more than we need, and more than most of the parents expected when the district selected this vendor. Latchkey should be a place for children to play and unwind with less structured activity. Champions is very structured and feels like more school to the kids. The teachers expect more from the children than they are able to give after a 7 hour school day. I also think many lack educational experience with children. The program would be more cost effective and easier for them to run in Elementary schools if they made some modifications to suit the customer (children). They should eliminate worksheets, projects, many arts/crafts and allow the children outside/gym time or quiet time (reading, board game, doing homework). Keep it simple. We didn’t sign up for their use of STEM or for it to be treated as an extra-curricular. For us, and majority of the district parents, it’s “latchkey” and we desperately need childcare to bridge the gap from the end of the school day to the end of work day.
