I am extremely upset, to say the least. I feel bad for the owner of this practice; however, as the owner of a counseling company—especially one that works with children—you must pay close attention to the professionals you hire.
I scheduled an evaluation for my daughter, who suffered significant emotional distress after a car accident. Her appointment was canceled the same day without reasonable notice or a valid explanation. After I left a message expressing my concerns about the lack of professionalism, I received a call from the CEO apologizing and offering to reschedule. I accepted the apology and scheduled another appointment for my daughter.
I also took the time to email the CEO, explaining the type of help I was seeking for my daughter and stressing the importance of completing the evaluation promptly because it was time-sensitive for my attorneys.
A few days after my daughter’s first appointment with the therapist, Sylvia, I followed up to request a copy of the evaluation. She seemed to have no idea what I was referring to. I explained the situation again and told her that I had already provided all of the information to her boss via email. She sounded confused and advised me to schedule another appointment, which I reluctantly did.
The day of that appointment arrived, and the therapist never showed up. Her boss called her multiple times. He was able to reach her once, and she said she was running behind, but after that she stopped answering his calls. She had our phone number but never contacted us to apologize or even let us know she wasn’t coming. After waiting for over an hour, the owner told us to go home and schedule yet another session.
We were extremely disappointed, but we decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. The CEO even offered us $20 to buy us coffee as an apology for the inconvenience. We initially refused, but he insisted, so we accepted.
The therapist didn’t contact us until that evening. She didn’t apologize or provide any explanation—she simply asked when we could come back. We scheduled a third appointment for today.
After the session, my daughter told me that the therapist seemed confused throughout the appointment. According to my daughter, the therapist admitted she didn’t know what type of evaluation was needed, so she handed her a handwritten note without a company letterhead or even a proper format. My daughter actually had to ask her to sign it.
This entire experience has been completely unacceptable. Sylvia’s conduct was unprofessional from beginning to end. Between the repeated scheduling failures, the lack of communication, the missed appointment without notice, and the inability to perform or understand the requested evaluation, I cannot recommend this practice to anyone seeking reliable mental health services for their child.
