- DCDolores Conway2 days ago5.0At the end of August I will be celebrating 24 years as a Resident of Vi at The Glen, My husband was with me for 22 of those years. During that time our care in every category was met and then some. I have the choice of two lovely dining rooms and a bistro to enjoy delicious and healthy meals with others or maybe occasionally in my apartment. There are programs to keep me mentally and physically healthy and entertained. There is a Care Center in the community for short or long term care when I need it. And then there is a Staff and a Resident Council that wants to hear about whatever concerns and suggestions I may have. So come visit. See it and feel it for yourself. Have to run now. Can’t be late for my line dance class😊
- LMLauren Miller5 days ago5.0We moved to the Vi in Glenview, IL seven weeks ago. The minute we walked in the front door we were impressed by the light and openness of the lobby. We were greeted by the staff with happy faces. Our first instinct was correct as soon as we moved in. The Vi was so helpful with helping arrange everything. The staff in every department are so helpful and friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you. So happy we chose the Vi and highly recommend it!

Staff…from administration all the way down…they are superlative-friendly, knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful. Our welfare and comfort is their main priority. Food…the best. Friends and family love coming here for dinner. Selection is excellent- multiple choices across the board-super kitchen and wait staff to boot. Activities…exercise classes daily, aquacize, cards, book clubs, guest speakers, musical performances, outings, walking beautiful grounds, a memoir group, art studio, bocci ball, super library donation dependent. You name it and it’s all your choice. Friendships…have developed lots of new friends. Funny how many “small world“connections pop up. Having dinner with friends old and new is a special part of the day. Housing…units are amazing and range from one and two bedroom variations covering a spectrum of floor plans. I know it sounds like all these superlatives are BS, but I assure you they are not. We feel very blesses to live here. And what a great long term gift to our kids. The decision has been ours, not theirs.

Within days, the staff was calling me by name and offering to help in any way that they could. Long time residents included me in their dinner plans. Making new friends was a side benefit of which I had not planned. Moving out of my condo in the city was bittersweet, but knowing that I wanted to be closer to my family in the North Shore suburbs became a priority. The Vi has been a perfect choice. My apartment is bright and cheery, the grounds are beautiful and well-maintained and I am now only 15 minutes from my children, grandchildren and a great grandchild. Come see for yourself and you, too, can start a new chapter.

About six months after my husband died, my daughters brought me to explore the Vi in Glenview. (My daughter Sally had seen the Vi in La Jolla, CA, was very impressed, and thought we should look at the Vi here.) Lucky for me -I thought it covered all my needs. All of the large spaces enjoyed by all the residents looked like they would make my life easier (and more social!). I moved into a one-bedroom apt. with one and one-half baths - my daughters helped me pick out furniture that would fit my new place - leaving all my furniture in the house to be divided among my children grandchildren , who all lived nearby. Meeting my fellow residents made me feel as if we were all back in college days. One day when I was in the bar area, saw a new resident, and looked at her name tag. I said "I can rembember your name - Pamela Smith - because I went to Smith College!" She said: "So did I!" (Now we have a group of four who went to Smith - and now and then we meet for dinner to share our memories!) Living here I'm busier than ever. Exercise class - games of all kinds (bridge, canasta, rummikub) - musical entertainment - group rides to theatre nearby or in Chicago - and much more.

What is a Life Plan Community/CCRC?
A Life Plan Community, also known as a continuing care retirement community or “CCRC” offers residents a combination of housing, dining, and certain amenities and health care services in return for a monthly fee and an entrance fee. Residents do not purchase their apartments. The entrance fee and monthly fees you pay give you the right to occupy an apartment for life and cover the services you receive while residing at the community, including the care services offered at the community’s care center.

What care does Vi at The Glen offer?
There are three basic types of continuing care contracts that a CCRC may offer, commonly known as Type A, Type B, and Type C.
A Type A contract provides the most comprehensive continuing care coverage. A Type A contract generally provides for transfer to any of the community’s care venues for an unlimited time at little or no additional cost beyond the monthly fee paid while residing in independent living (including any ongoing monthly fee increases applicable to such independent living unit) and the costs of ancillary supplies and additional meals.
A Type B contract typically includes a specific number of “free” days in the community’s care venues at the monthly fee rate paid by the resident for his/her independent living apartment. When those “free” days are exhausted, the resident begins to pay a market rate for care services. With this type of contract, the resident assumes some risk in terms of paying for services at an amount in excess of the monthly fee.
A Type C (or fee-for-service) contract does not include care services at the monthly fee rate or discounted rate. Residents receive priority admission to the community care venues, but must pay the market rate for care venue services. With this type of contract, the resident assumes the highest level of risk, as charges will vary depending upon the services needed.
