This ward is not one I would personally recommend to someone attending an LDS church for the first time. My hope is that anyone looking into the Church will experience what I have experienced in other wards: love, compassion, understanding, fellowship, and genuine brotherhood and sisterhood. I have been a member of the Church since I was 9 years old, and unfortunately, my experience in this ward has been very different. To be clear, I am not saying every member here is rude or unkind. There are good people in every ward. However, some of the interactions I have experienced here have been discouraging and, in my opinion, do not reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ or the way members of the Church should treat one another. One experience in particular was the reason I decided I would no longer attend this ward and this is why: While sitting in the pew, my boys asked me, “Where do we go?” referring to their class. I told them, “I don’t know.” A woman sitting next to us then asked, “Hi, what’s your name? Are you from here or are you visiting?” I explained that I had transferred into this ward and that this was now my ward. She responded, “Oh, you’re from here and you don’t know where they go for class?” and laughed. She then told me, “Well, feel free to go find a church. If you feel good there, go there.” I was hurt and disappointed by that interaction, especially as someone who had come to church expecting to feel welcomed and supported. Rather than feeling like I belonged, I felt dismissed and unwelcome. I got up and left. My intention in sharing this review is not to discourage anyone from the LDS Church. Quite the opposite. If you are visiting the Church for the first time and have an experience like mine, please don't assume that this is what the Church or its members are supposed to be like. I strongly encourage you to give another ward a try. In my experience, the Melbourne and West Melbourne wards have been places where you can feel the Spirit, love, compassion, fellowship, and genuine brother and sisterhood. One unpleasant experience with a few people should not define your view of the entire Church. There are wonderful members and wonderful wards where you can feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Please don't let one ward—or one person's behavior—discourage you from finding that experience.

Attending this church with my parents as a kid and now bringing my own family here to learn about and worship Jesus Christ is among the greatest blessings in my life. Come worship with us.

The Church of Jesus Christ has provided me an extended family, friends that help me learn more about the Saviour Jesus Christ and how to live like Him. Whether this faith community is dancing, praying, singing, camping, or serving those in need, I feel peace. Most important I have found the answers to my personal questions of who am I, where did I come from, why I am here and where will I be going when I leave this earth. What joy!
