Most people are overwhelmed with grief, and that grief is made even harder by having to navigate an unfamiliar process. When my mom passed, I wanted to bring her back to her hometown for her services, and I chose Kent Forrest as the local funeral home to help. Scott came to my house to pick her up and was so kind, warm, and gentle with her and with us. Over the next several days, Scott took the initiative to coordinate all the logistics with the funeral home back home, made sure every piece of paperwork was properly submitted, and followed up with me and my family at each step so we were never left wondering what was happening. I honestly can't thank Kent Forrest, and Scott especially, enough. During one of the hardest times of our lives, they took so much weight off our shoulders. I called Kierston around lunchtime regarding a broken vase, along with a few other concerns at Evergreen, and she was incredibly kind, polite, empathetic, and understanding throughout our conversation. By early afternoon, she had already contacted the groundsman, Jose, who immediately went out to assess the situation. He identified the broken vase and promptly replaced it with a new one. I was extremely impressed with how quickly they responded and resolved the issue. When our loved ones are laid to rest, it means so much to know that their resting place is being treated with care, dignity, and respect. Contact your clergy. Decide on time and place of funeral or memorial service. This can be done at the funeral home.
The funeral home will assist you in determining the number of copies of the death certificates you will be needing and can order them for you.
Make a list of immediate family, close friends and employer or business colleagues. Notify each by phone.
Decide on appropriate memorial to which gifts may be made (church, hospice, library, charity or school).
Gather obituary information you want to include such as age, place of birth, cause of death, occupation, college degrees, memberships held, military service , outstanding work, list of survivors in immediate family. Include time and place of services. The funeral home will normally write article and submit to newspapers (newspaper will accept picture and they will be returned intact).
