I am praying for this ward/stake to find the Christlike compassion they forgot.
I was raised in the LDS church from birth. I grew up believing that our faith was rooted in pure charity and the protection of the vulnerable. But when my life fell apart, and I found myself homeless with my four young children (ages 11, 7, 3, and 1), the leadership of this church turned away. They allowed a lifelong member and four innocent babies to sleep in a car.
When I asked for help with daycare so I could try and find work and rebuild our lives, I was met with cold bureaucracy. They ignored my immediate crisis and simply directed me to employment resources—even though I was already working with the church employment office. I reached out to the case worker anyway, but no real help ever came.
My heart breaks not just for what my children endured, but for the state of this ward's/Stake's testimony. I pray that the Lord softens the hearts of the leadership and members here, and that you are granted the gift of true empathy. In Matthew 18:6, Jesus gave a terrifying warning about failing little ones: "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."
Furthermore, Luke 17:2 warns that it is better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone than to cause a child to stumble or suffer. In Mosiah 4:16-17, the Book of Mormon explicitly commands us to succor those in need and not to let them petition in vain. You failed to protect my babies. I pray you repent, remember the teachings of the Savior, and never let another mother and her children suffer under your watch again.
In God's kingdom, the order is clear: protect the vulnerable, feed the hungry, and shelter the fatherless first, immediately, without conditions. What the ward did: They flipped it completely. They acted like a corporate insurance company or a government office. They wanted you to go through 211, check every county list, and exhaust every single secular option first. (Which I did and still was left in a car and no one bothered to check on me.) They treated their resources like a guarded treasury rather than a tool for immediate Christian ministry. They put their red tape first and God's love last. I am concerned how far they have fallen from God's teachings and what I grew up with. I pray this is not what the church as a whole has become. How can they sit there and say they are the one true church while doing the things Jesus scolded the phrases for?
