The residents in the community are amongst the most talent, educated, informed, intelligent, worldly, compassion and friendly folks that you could find anywhere under one roof. The location is perfect. Access to health care, shopping, entertainment, theater and dining is amazing. The staff are welcoming, friendly, helpful and we have a staff appreciation program and a scholarship program to assist our staff members. Dining services have improved over the last months with a change in leadership. There is access to many options in multiple locations. Between the talent of the residents who run and organize many of the activities and the outside talent that is brought in, the options are endless. There are the usual corporate issues that cause residents to have to press for change. The most apparent issue is the lag in aquiring technical software upgrades to better streamline information. This would help the residents and the corporation immensely. Another concern is the rising cost of private duty care for those who might need it and the availability of space in the care center should there be that need too. LIving in The Vi, creates a life that you might not have imagined is possible. Dealing with life can be frustrating. Everything is a balancing act.

I have lived at Vi at La Jolla Village for 9 years and I am over the moon happy here! There is the most wonderful community of people you could ever want to be living with. They are welcoming, friendly, interesting, and curious. There are always people to talk to, visit with, and play games with so that it is impossible to be lonely here! There are three restaurants where I can have meals. The food is well prepared and delicious, with a wide variety to choose from. The servers are also amazing! The housekeeping staff keep the building so clean all of the time! My apartment gets cleaned and the linens changed every week. The physical plant is absolutely beautiful, including the lovely garden. I feel so safe and secure as there are security guards 24 hours a day and concierge employees always at the front desk to help with any concerns, as well as a Wellness Center to help with any health situations that happen. The fitness center, pool and hot tub are open 24 hours and offer many classes to help the residents stay active, healthy and strong. There is a Brain Vitality Studio with fabulous equipment to help us exercise not just our bodies but our minds too. I am busy all day long if I want to, with a varied schedule of activities of all types. The Lifestyles Department does a great job with this. There is a Care Center on the premises in case I ever need more care for temporary or more permanent needs. I am so very glad that my wife and I moved to Vi at La Jolla Village. It was one of the best decisions we ever made for ourselves and for our children. Tony Riesner, DDS

I moved to Vi Living almost eleven years ago. It was the right choice for me then, and it continues to be the right choice for me now. The residents here are among the nicest people you will ever meet in a retirement community. In addition, the meals are of very high quality—well-prepared and offering ample variety. I am consistently impressed by the management and staff, who are exceptionally attentive, friendly, and skilled at listening to residents to help solve any problems that arise. My apartment in Independent Living is significantly larger and nicer than others I toured at similar retirement communities. The location is also perfect for me; I am fortunate to have my family living in San Diego, just fifteen minutes away. Because I grew up in a high-rise apartment building, transitioning from a private house to community living was very easy for me. I especially appreciate the convenience of the weekly housekeeping and laundry services. Vi’s Care Center is well-run and highly accessible. In fact, I recuperated there for a short time several years ago and received excellent care. While living in any retirement community can occasionally present challenges, Vi ultimately does a fine job. Finally, on a personal note, it can be difficult to make wonderful new friends only to lose them a short time later. However, this is the reality of a retirement community, which is most likely our final home. It remains a true privilege to make these new connections, even though we must say goodbye as time goes by. "In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years." — Abraham Lincoln

I have lived at Vi in La Jolla for over 12 years, and I always tell people that moving here was “the best decision I ever made”. But truth to tell, it was more a matter of luck. I didn’t have sufficient time to thoroughly research this important decision, as I moved pretty much overnight from my home in New York to San Diego in response to a family emergency. I quickly visited a few retirement communities in San Diego before choosing Vi, largely due to its perfect location. Numerous restaurants, shops, grocery stores, pharmacies, movie theaters, even world-class hospitals, are within walking distance. To go farther afield, there are tram and bus stops very close by. For those who drive, it’s only a 25 minute trip to the airport, Balboa Park with its zoo and famous Old Globe Theater, beaches, San Diego Old Town and downtown. It’s almost as if someone drew a circle enclosing all the best things in San Diego, and then placed Vi smack in the middle! What I did not, could not, know at the moment of decision was how much more Vi offers. It has the most wonderful staff imaginable: housekeepers; home maintenance, security, and concierge desk employees; valet parkers; servers in the FOUR restaurants onsite; transportation team that takes non-driving residents all over the city to various appointments and excursions--all are so kind and personable, all work very hard to ensure that residents are happy and comfortable and safe. Add to this a creative and diligent “Lifestyles” Department that plans over a hundred different activities a week—exercise (Zumba or line dancing or aquacise or strength training, anyone?); excursions (beautiful parks, farmer’s markets, theaters, concerts, museums); art and history lectures with fascinating speakers; musical happy hours—the list is endless. All of this is overseen by a very talented administrative team, led by Stefanie Boudreau, who is deeply committed to resident well-being. Above all, there are the residents. You would be hard-pressed to find a more accomplished, intelligent, and warmly welcoming group. I am proud to call so many of them my dear friends. I have friends from Michigan who moved to San Diego four years ago but chose a different retirement community. Every time they visit me, they tell me that they regret their choice, as they can see the obvious advantages of Vi. Life is so easy and so happy here. I’d like to take credit for the wisdom of my decision so many years ago, but it was mostly very good fortune. I am one very lucky—and very grateful--woman!

I have lived at Vi at La Jolla Village for 10 years, and moving here was one of the best decisions my husband and I ever made. As a lifelong San Diegan, I feel fortunate to live in what I believe is one of the finest senior living communities in Southern California. What makes Vi so special is that it allows you to age gracefully while living a full and active life. Everything is thoughtfully designed for convenience and comfort. We can access dining, activities, and services without having to go outside, and the valet service makes coming and going effortless. The opportunities for staying physically and mentally active are outstanding. There are excellent exercise classes, weekly walking outings to beautiful locations around San Diego, engaging lectures on a wide variety of topics, and a Brain Vitality Center that supports lifelong learning and cognitive wellness. One of the things I appreciate most is that residents are encouraged to share their talents and interests. If someone has a passion for teaching, leading a group, or starting a new activity, there is tremendous support for making it happen. This creates a vibrant and stimulating community. Most importantly, the people here are wonderful. If you want privacy, you can enjoy the comfort of your own apartment. If you want companionship, there are endless opportunities to connect. From the moment new residents arrive, they are welcomed and included. Mentors help newcomers learn their way around, meet people, and become involved in activities that interest them. Whether you are single or part of a couple, there is a strong support system and a genuine sense of caring. I enjoy dinner with friends almost every evening, and one of the greatest gifts of living here has been the friendships and connections that enrich my daily life. The location is another major advantage. We are close to shopping, restaurants, and services, with a major shopping center just a short walk away. Life at Vi is enriching, convenient, and filled with opportunities for friendship, learning, and wellness. After 10 years, I can honestly say that my life feels fuller because I live here. I highly recommend Vi at La Jolla Village to anyone looking for an exceptional senior living community. Harriet Lisak
