  We are starting to explore senior living options in San Diego and toured Vi with Theresa. The facility is impressive in the continuum of services offered, breadth of programming and level of resident engagement. Theresa did a fantastic job of showing us Vi, explaining choices for senior living and introducing us to some residents - both as we toured and at the lemonade social scheduled on the day of our visit. We are early in our exploration but left both impressed with all we saw and educated on what to look for when considering senior communities. BTW - Theresa isn’t a salesperson but the Community Relations Manager and perfect host for our tour!

  The residents in the community are amongst the most talented, educated, informed, intelligent, worldly, compassionate and friendly folks that you could find anywhere under one roof. The location is perfect. Access to health care, shopping, entertainment, theater and dining is amazing. The staff are welcoming, friendly, helpful and we have a staff appreciation program and a scholarship program to assist our staff members. Between the talent of the residents who run and organize many of the activities and the outside talent that is brought in, the options are endless. So, this community like it's sister communities, was purchased by LCS. In writing we were promised that nothing would change. We were told that the Vi Corporation would run the community autonomously. Turns out that was not true.The SUITS are here regularly and it is obvious that the administrators are being pressured. Everyday they chip away at the kind of community that Mrs. PRITZKER, would have wanted to live in. The dining staffing and food services have dramatically been cut or there are constant staff shortages and changes to the menus. They are accepting residents with significant memory and health challenges, which puts pressure on services, care and space in the other levels of care. Residents who have lived here for 15 or more years are often in better shape than those being accepted into Indie living. State laws often impact those that are now admitted, but the problem is that the community was not designed to provide space for the increased potential of having to be moved to the higher levels of care.The flexible spending dining works well for many residents. But now Corporate does not want residents to use all their allotted points. And yet if they roll the video tape, the program was promoted in such a way that residents were told that they could use their points any way they wanted with the addition of the take out cafe. The community used to provide breakfast, that has been removed. The community used to give cash back for unused meals, that has been removed. Sales promises a lifestyle that may not exactly be true. Often new residents cannot sign up for transport to theater and events because everything is sold out. There is talk about cutting housekeeping services. Many things that impact the promise you are sold. Another concern is the rising cost of private duty care for those who might need it and the availability of space in the care center should there be that need too. If there is not room "in the INN" then residents can be forced into hiring caregivers, or potentially having to be moved to another community, away from familiar friends, until space becomes available. LIving in The Vi, creates a life that you might not have imagined is possible. It is socially and mentally stimulating and wonderful. But, for a Corporation that Is cutting the beef and services for residents while also claiming they wanted Vi as their premium product, they are not cutting the pork from the excessive corporate level to provide the luxury experience. As in most corporate take overs, the highly paid corporate staff are most likely next on the cutting block. Ask a lot of questions. Many of these reviews were created after Corporate contacted residents and helped them to compose 5 star reviews that contain no details about the experience. It is true that you can have an amazing life with your friends, all the activities and the kind staff, but as prices rise, and investors who took on debt to purchase the community struggle to make a profit, the experience is likely to erode over time until those who remember that there used to be a French Chef here, are gone. And that will be the new normal, and the current sales pitch.
