  I would give Higgins Mortuary zero stars if Google allowed it. My loved one passed away in California on July 10, 2026, while visiting a friend. Today is September 14, 2026, and I still have not received their remains. They were not cremated until August 23, 2026—more than six weeks after their passing. Throughout this entire process, I felt that I had to constantly over-communicate just to receive basic information and updates. I repeatedly asked to speak directly with the licensed funeral director handling my loved one’s arrangements. I believe that is a completely reasonable request, especially when dealing with the death of a loved one. Despite asking numerous times, I was never contacted by anyone who identified themselves to me as a licensed funeral director. Because I live on the East Coast, all of my communication had to be handled by phone, text, and email. I did everything I could to move the process along, including offering to fly to California myself if my presence would help expedite things. I was told that would not speed up the process. I also had to personally contact the deputy at the coroner’s office to try to obtain information regarding my loved one’s cause of death. Even then, obtaining that information took several weeks. I have never had to bury or cremate a loved one before, so I understand that there are procedures and circumstances that can sometimes cause delays. What I do not understand is the lack of communication and the feeling that I had to continually chase information during one of the most difficult times of my life. My children are asking when their loved one’s services will be. Family members and friends are also asking when the services will take place. I cannot properly plan or make the necessary arrangements because I still do not have my loved one’s remains. This has been an incredibly painful and frustrating experience. Losing a loved one is devastating enough without having to repeatedly make calls, send messages, request updates, and search for answers about what is happening with them. Hands down, this has been the worst experience I have ever endured with a funeral home. I expected compassion, communication, professionalism, and accountability during this process. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience with Higgins Mortuary.

  Roland assisted myself and my older brother. He was professional, kind, and went above and beyond to ensure our father was laid to rest with dignity and respect. My entire family was pleased that my father looked like himself, just asleep. Roland made sure to ask questions and confirm our wishes, even taking the time to clarify the entire process so that there would be no surprises. The staff was very kind and welcoming. Thank you for everything!

  Mila was compassionate, professional, helpful, and very thorough with the whole process. Her whole team made the service a great day for our loved one.

  Higgins Mortuary, especially Mila Valdivia, was/is a tremendous help. Throughout the whole process of grieving and celebrating our loved one , Mila and her staff met every need and some we didn't realize needing . The professionalism and care Higgins provided in putting together a video slide show to preparing our loved one, Lydia, for viewing is something we will always remember. On behalf of the Herrmann's we would like to thank Higgins Mortuary , Mila Valdivia and the rest of the staff for making us feel like family ❤️
