I have mixed feelings about the Children’s Lighthouse in Fate. On the positive side, the staff is incredibly friendly, the teachers are kind and knowledgeable, and the facility is clean and well-maintained, which I truly appreciate.
That said, I do have some concerns. After enrolling my son two days a week, he had only been attending for about a week when he came home sick after his second day. On that same second day of drop-off, I noticed several other children who appeared visibly unwell, with runny noses and strong coughs. When I asked the teacher about it, I was told this was “normal,” which concerned me. As a first-time mom, I trusted their judgment and decided to let it go—a decision I now regret.
By Sunday night, my son developed a high fever, severe congestion, and loss of appetite. The next morning, I took him to the doctor, and he tested positive for COVID.
While I understand that parents also play a role, I believe the daycare should be more proactive in ensuring that sick children are kept home to prevent the spread of illnesses. When my husband and I called to inform them of our son’s diagnosis, the response felt somewhat dismissive. During the conversation, as we expressed our concern for both our son and the other children at the daycare, a comment was made: “I know, I have two kids.” This came across as if it justified the situation or minimized our concerns.
Instead of feeling supported, we were left feeling as though we were overreacting, which was both disappointing and frustrating.
And for the record, I’m sorry, but whether there are two children or one hundred, nothing changes the fact that the daycare does not seem genuinely concerned about children being dropped off while sick.
I hope this review helps other parents make informed decisions. Overall, Children’s Lighthouse could greatly improve by enforcing stricter health measures to better protect the children in their care.
In my opinion, they should consider shutting down for at least a week when outbreaks occur and require children to be tested before returning. This would help safeguard the many kids and BABIES who attend, especially since COVID, while not as severe as it was in 2020–2021, can still affect individuals differently and sometimes seriously.
As for me, I’ve decided to end my relationship with this daycare. A little respect and empathy for a child who was perfectly healthy before becoming sick would have gone a long way.
On top of that, we are still required to pay for the week my son will be out due to getting sick at the daycare — and we will pay, simply because we are honest people and thats the end of the story.
