  Phoebe Ministries is an outstanding organization that excels. You can tell Phoebe values residential care when you are at their Allentown community. The Executive Director is experienced in all levels of care, and hospitality is her key focus. Employees seem to love working here, and residents feel heard. I recommend Phoebe Allentown to anyone who needs outstanding Senior Care!

  My mother's experience at Phoebe Rehab on Turner St. following hip and wrist surgery was deeply concerning and ultimately detrimental to her recovery. After being discharged from the hospital, we placed our trust in Phoebe to provide the necessary rehabilitation to regain her mobility and independence. Unfortunately, that trust was severely misplaced. The very first night of her admission, my mother fell. This incident was never communicated to me by the staff, a shocking lapse in communication and patient care. This set the tone for her entire stay. Instead of receiving encouragement and active rehabilitation, my mother languished in bed. When she refused a rehab session, no attempt was made to re-engage her, demonstrating a profound lack of proactive care. The administration of her medications was also deeply troubling. Medications were given intermittently, and on multiple occasions, we found pills scattered on the floor. This careless approach to medication management is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about patient safety. Furthermore, my mother contracted C. diff during her stay at Phoebe, a serious infection that further compromised her health. Her appetite declined drastically, and we became increasingly worried about her overall well-being. It felt as though she was simply being left to deteriorate. After three weeks, her insurance company refused to continue covering her stay, citing a lack of progress. This was a direct result of Phoebe's inadequate care. The consequences were severe. Multiple assisted living facilities in the Lehigh Valley subsequently rejected my mother due to her perceived lack of rehabilitation progress. However, just one week after her discharge, with the support of a dedicated physical therapist, my mother was walking 20 feet or more with minimal assistance. This rapid improvement, achieved with simple encouragement, highlighted the stark contrast between the care she received at Phoebe and the potential she possessed. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Phoebe Rehab to any family seeking quality rehabilitation care. The staff's apparent indifference and lack of proactive engagement were deeply disappointing. It felt as though my mother was just another number, and those with complex needs were simply overlooked. We relied on the CMS ratings, which proved to be a significant misjudgment. I strongly advise other families to conduct thorough research and be extremely selective when choosing a rehabilitation facility. There are undoubtedly better options available in the Lehigh Valley. Our experience at Phoebe was a stark reminder of the importance of advocating for your loved ones and not solely relying on institutional ratings.

  I thought my father received very decent care here at Phoebe. Special notice should be taken to acknowledge the PT and OT staff, Gary and Stella. They tried so hard to get my father to regain his strength and will to get better, even having heartfelt talks with him pleading for him to try his hardest. Also, very special thanks to the nursing aides, and I hope I'm getting the names correct but I'm sure I'm missing several...Lisa, Nada, Jose...such beautiful people who TRULY care and try to make a real difference. And thank you for getting Dad to eat!!! Ann Dee, room care, thank you for your kindness as well. Also, Stephanie, his regular PA, who i didnt get to meet but my mom said was great. I saw my Father open up and smile some days which is something I haven't seen for several years. My mom was also so grateful for the help of the woman in charge of his week to week insurance approvals so he could stay (and im so sorry i forgot your name!) Thank you so much to these people for your kindness, support and above and beyond care! My only complaint is about the substitute PA, who I will not mention by name, who took over Dad's care for a week while his regular PA was out, and kept insisting his sepsis was back and that if he didn't go back to the hospital you would treat him as though he was in hospice and only "make him comfortable". Please remember that everyone is fighting a battle and let that knowledge guide you in speaking kindly to the patient and their family. This situation has not been easy for my Dad or for our family. Please also remember that if a family member or patient questions you with regard to medicine dosing or treatment plans, they may only be trying to understand your reasons for choosing a certain path for the patient. Maybe they know something about their medical history that you do not know. And maybe they have ideas that can help. Doctors are not right 100 percent of the time as evidenced by the fact that it has been over a week since he's been home and two weeks since he's had any fevers. Fortunately, your certainty that the sepsis is definitely back was incorrect. He is doing well since he's been home, regaining strength and we are so grateful. So, for the most part, thank you, Phoebe, for your care of my Dad. I believe this facility and staff truly made a difference for him.
