Don’t count on being admitted inside, even if you’re a card-carrying YMCA nationwide member, and have all the proof in the world INCLUDING I.D, membership card, and recent bank statements proving your YMCA account is current. Front desk guy I interacted with was incompetent and rude. THEIR system “wasn’t working properly” and he chose to make it my problem, and treated me like I was some sort of grifter trying to sneak in, before he rudely and callously waved me off. Didn’t even try to call my local YMCA to verify my membership. Didn’t inform me that the lobby was a “community area” and that I could hang out there while we got it figured out, nothing. He just wanted me out of his sight. I had to come back a different day, AND phone my local YMCA myself with a request for them to call this Y, and vouch for me. It was only after I talked it over with manager Mike, submitted to a “background check”, and jumped through a ridiculous amount of hoops, while said hoops were on fire, that I was FINALLY allowed to access the facilities. What am I paying membership dues for, if all this is the case? Dude with the medium complexion who works the front desk, you should be embarrassed at your total lack of people skills, resourcefulness, compassion, and practicality. You wasted hours of a member’s time, and tens of dollars in gasoline, which they will never, ever get back. Read the other 1-star reviews: many such cases of employees being unprofessional. You can’t treat people like this. You need to do better.

The Eugene YMCA is a beautiful, top-of-the-line facility with thoughtfully designed spaces that truly support community and wellness. Every class instructor I’ve had has been excellent—encouraging, skilled, and welcoming. Such a fantastic addition to the Eugene community!

I recently visited the YMCA with my two younger siblings, as their guardian. We arrived around 11 a.m., and according to the posted schedule, the small pool was open until 12:45 p.m. Initially, my siblings began swimming while I went to work out. After about 5 to 10 minutes, my brother informed me that a lifeguard had yelled at him in a very rude manner, because they were under 14 without a guardian, which was quite unsettling. Instead of a polite explanation, the lifeguard raised his voice, making the situation uncomfortable. When I eventually joined them in the pool, after about 30 minutes of swimming, the same lifeguard came over again and told us that we weren’t supposed to be there, despite the posted schedule. He said we were only there because he let us, which was confusing and frustrating, as we were there during the correct time window. He told us we need to stay still and stop bothering others, however we were only in the small pool minding our business, we didn't splash or were loud or bothering anyone, plus there were just a few couple people around. While we understand the importance of rules, the tone and manner of communication are crucial. A more POLITE approach would have made the experience much more pleasant for everyone involved.Thank you.

We've been members here for a couple of years now and LOVE it! Yes, it is popular and why wouldn't it be? It's huge, well-kept, clean, and a pleasant place to be with so much to do. The group fitness classes are awesome, my little one loves the kids zone, and I find myself wanting to go instead of dreading the thought of going to the gym. Thank you to the Y staff for all of your hard work! Anybody that thinks they should be the only one that works out here should probably just buy some equipment and work out in their own garage. Heaven forbid you wait for a machine or don't find a front row parking spot!
