My husband and I have been going here for some time. And while there have been good points, we had a horrible experience yesterday that must be addressed. We started late fall/early winter of 2021 I believe. And since I just had a baby, we needed to take a break from counseling until our lives had some normalcy. Yesterday was our first appointment since February/March of 2022. Well, I think this break upset our therapist. For some reason, she had a chip on her shoulder. Our session also started late, and it ended early. We did not get a full hour. Usually, she would pray at the end of the session, but that did not happen this time. It just felt like she wanted us out of her office since she is not a "miracle worker." What a terrible thing to say to a patient. The negative attitude she brought into the counseling session was counterproductive. She got offended over many things I was saying, and they were not even directed toward her. When we left the office, I asked my husband what he thought, and he was on the same page as me. We don't know why she was so rude to us. My husband is a therapist, and he said that she should really check her emotions. It's important for a patient to trust their therapist and feel safe enough to share the details of their situation. It was not professional for her to talk down to me for placing an importance on my career. If she was confused by anything I was saying, she should have asked questions to get a better understanding. Also, most therapists provide homework and goals. We did not receive those. Early on in our 2021 sessions, she did mention to check out our love lanuages, which we did. But we never did anything with that knowledge as a group. While I think her knowledge on the Bible is strong, I do believe she needs more tools in her toolbox in regards to therapy. For example, attachment styles and a person's childhood should never go unaddressed or ignored when a patient brings it up. During our last session in February/March, she ignored some serious things I was saying about my childhood; and during this session, she ignored the attachement styles I brought up. Furthermore, after speaking about my concerns over the counseling session with my husband, I was recalling some uncomfortable moments during some of our previous sessions. One of which was when I was pregnant. I loved the fact that I was pregnant, but I was struggling with the weight gain and sickness. Our therapist had the audacity to ask me if "I wanted this baby." I am a cancer survivor and an older mom. This is a miracle baby for me. Therefore, I was very upset when she asked me that since that's all I wanted - to be a mom. But I chose to drop it and continue our sessions. Now, looking back, I think she had an issue with us for awhile. Yesterday, when I was talking to her about my recovery from labor, she had a stone cold look on her face. I felt like she did not care. In fact, she said how she said back in 2021 that things would not be the same. She was being condescending. A therapist should not lack empathy. I am a Christian, and I love the fact that this is a faith-based organization. And while I'm sure there are some great therapists here, we did not have an overall good experience with ours. ADDITIONS: I received a call from the therapist. She said she was not a fit. When I went into details, she interrupted and said she had other patients today. Then, I received a call from her boss, who was very nice. She heard me out and said she will be addressing the matter.
