Celebrating 110 years, family-owned and operated for four generations, Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. is proud of our legacy of providing exceptional service. Located in Utica we are part of an area rich in history, culture and diversity. We can boast of our location along the old Erie Canal, the final resting place of Vice-President Sherman and the childhood home of St. Marianne Cope. Culturally we have the Stanley Theater and Munson Williams Proctor Institute. In the early 1900?s, we saw immigrants come to America with the promise of a new beginning and now we are proud of a diverse population.
Heintz Funeral Service, Inc. is where we are today because of our predecessors, the values that they instilled in us and the trust of the families we serve.
This funeral home service is nothing that I would recommend to anyone, never mind a family grieving the sudden loss of their young family member.
There was absolutely no communication from the "directors," or anyone standing around in a suit. No one filled the mourners in on where to be for the cortege, not even where the bathrooms were. No simple amenities other than a water fountain tucked into a side hall.
The deceased, quite bluntly, looked terrible. Not placed correctly in the casket, and yes, we have a licensed funeral home director (and embalmer) in our family, so we know what we are talking about. He wanted to speak with the "director," there but we decided he shouldn't out of respect for the mother who was lost in grief.
To add to the distress, one of the "directors" (suit wearing employee) made the comment that "strong pall bearers would be needed," for our beloved family member. That was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. Nothing like a veiled insult to the deceased to provide comfort.
If there is a response to this from the funeral home, I can only say, there is nothing to do for it now. It's done. Our family member is gone. Nothing said or done now will change the experience we had. Nothing will give the funeral service the opportunity to do the right thing, once it is done.
Thank goodness the church service at St. Paul's was so beautiful. It was the only comforting thing about this entire ordeal.
We are used to calling hours/funerals and directors who are professional, compassionate and communicate everything to the family.

Not a pleasant experience AT ALL! No tact in conveying or dealing with arising issues as one goes through a heartwretching part of life...
