We had a very good experience at Merry Heart with my mom. She initially went to MH in February 2025 for rehabilitation after a fall and hospital visit. At the time, my siblings and I did not believe that she would ever return to independent living. However, my mother made a remarkable comeback under Merry Heart’s care and she actually enjoyed her time there (especially the bingo and hair / nails service). Unfortunately, after about 4 months of independent living, she had another fall / hospital visit that would place her in nursing care for the rest of her life. She was at a different nursing facility to start off with and it was simply not as good as Merry Heart. It was a larger facility. She was more of “just a number” there. She did not receive the kind of more personal care that she received at Merry Heart. Eventually, we transferred my mom back to Merry Heart where she lived out the remainder of her life. Caring for people who need skilled nursing is difficult. It’s not an ideal situation for anyone. The people at Merry Heart navigated those challenges well. They took good care of my mother. They worked together with Enoble Hospice to make sure that she got the care that she wanted. They kept us informed about her condition. The people at Merry Heart did seem to genuinely care about my mother. No one wants to be in a nursing home, but if you need that level of care, I don’t think you’ll find a better place than Merry Heart.

Very disappointed in Merry Heart. Years ago they had a great reputation & that is why I chose to send my 85 yr old Mom there for sub-acute rehab. My brother & I told staff we were healthcare workers just so that they knew we’d be asking questions & understood the medical lingo. Initially, my Mom was in isolation for Covid. There was a sign on the door, but hardly anyone wore a mask. The nurse’s aides were WONDERFUL!!! They worked their butts off helping my Mom & other patients. The sad part, they are overworked and underpaid. Though the nurses were nice, all you saw, from my perspective, was them giving out meds & sitting behind a glass window on their phones. You had to knock on the door to get ice, FROM A COOLER!! They have no ice machine on the second floor. That’s an ideal spot for germs to grow & spread…. No washing of hands or using sanitizer before picking up the scooper to put ice in the ice bucket. When my brother & I found my Mom sitting in a wet/messy diaper, we’d ask the nurse if someone could come in & clean her up….. their response, “ I’ll get the aide to come in.” Well, the aide was busy with the other 9 patients they had to attend to…. My brother & I offered to help clean my Mom up…. Nope!! Had to wait for the aide. I don’t know if it’s just Merry Heart but where was the “nursing,” of the patient?? It seemed like the nurses didn’t care. My Mom had Parkinson’s…… she was there for about a month when I was given 5 days notice that she would be discharged because Merry Heart’s documentation (nurses, P.T. &O.T.) felt she could go home & function on her own. There was no way that could happen unless I took a leave of absence from my job as it wasn’t safe. I appealed, but Medicare denied an extension based on the documentation. The day before discharge, she started bleeding, vaginally, & was admitted to Morristown Medical Center for 6 days due to a massive UTI. Merry Heart should have caught that BEFORE it got so serious. If the nurse did a true assessment of the patient they could’ve caught it before it became a raging infection. When she was ready for discharge, the MMC social worker told me Merry Heart wouldn’t take her back. In a way, that was a blessing as she went to Care One in Hanover and they were absolutely AMAZING!! We couldn’t have asked for better care & compassion from “ALL STAFF.” On November 24, I brought my home on Hospice & she passed on December 5. I will NEVER recommend Merry Heart to any family member or friend. Huge disappointment. Instead of treating patients like “patients,” it’s just a business to the people who run the place.

I would give Merry Heart so many more stars than 5! What an extraordinary facility this is!
Beginning with the Drs and all the nursing staff there, and including the Aides and maintenance and kitchen staff, the people there , could not have been nicer to my mom or to me!! All of them were so friendly and treated us like their own family!! Special thanks to Karissa and Katherine, who cared for my mom daily!!🩷🩷

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Merry Heart Assisted Living/Senior Care for the short time my mother was there. The staff treated my mom like she was a member of their family. Let’s face it, nobody likes to be relocated from their home to a different place to live but again, the staff from the business end to the medical end were fabulous. Suzette is so very kind and compassionate as well as the owner. The woman at the front desk gave us a wonderful tour and answered all of our questions.
One nurse, in particular, Armie (sp) was superb. She really treated my mom with such care. My heart breaks for all who are in assisted living with no visitors. We met such lovely people at this facility! May God bless all of you for your kindness and empathy!
