  Our mother was at Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta until her passing at age 91. I can't say enough about the staff that took care of our mother and treated her like family. It's very hard when a parent can't live alone safely anymore. We wanted our mother in a clean, safe and caring place which is why we chose Home of the Good Shepherd. While a resident, Mom was able to live in her own room with furniture we brought from her home. The staff keep the folks busy with activities, entertainment and social events. Having our mom here gave us all peace of mind.

  My father was extremely well cared for in The Home of the Good Shepherd’s Memory Care Unit. After caring for my father at home for many years as his Alzheimer’s disease progressed, we made the difficult decision to have him cared for in a different setting. We chose The Home of the Good Shepherd in Malta after visiting many memory care units in the Capital Region. Our decision was based on many factors, including their caring staff, an up-to-date and appropriate setting for people dealing with memory issues, and the types of activities available. He seemed very happy there and when the time of his passing came, we were blessed to have the care of hospice nurses to augment the care of the Good Shepherd staff. My mother often says, she wishes we made the decision to make the transition sooner.

  Home of the Good Shepherd is a God send to us. My sister is extremely well taken care of, the staff is super friendly and helpful, the food is wonderful, and the programs, including many musical performances a month, give my sister such comfort and joy.

  Since the day my Dad moved into Home of the Good Shepherd, he has felt welcomed and loved. His first day there they were having a lunch for just the men. He is not a shy guy, so immediately started conversing with the guys at his table. His room is just the right size, and the staff helped us bring everything in. Everyone was so friendly. We knew he was in a good place! Fast forward 6+ years and Dad is thriving. He has so many friends, including staff. The staff knows everyone personally. Whenever there are any concerns medically, the staff is sure to call and fill us in. They have a calendar full of events each month. Dad has to check his calendar before he accepts an invitation to go out with us. He doesn’t want to miss anything. I love that we are welcome anytime to participate in any activities taking place. One of the best events was Prom Night. We had so much fun dancing and singing to the great music. I couldn’t ask for a better place for my Dad.

  My mother lived here for 2 years, before passing peacefully. I highly recommend this Home. Is it perfect? No. Taking care of the elderly is not easy. If it was, we the relatives would be able to do it in our homes. I feel that the staff tries very hard to work with everyone, according to their needs. I met a lot of kind, concerned, hardworking, (and sometimes frustrated) staff that just didn't have the time to do everything they wanted to. I am very thankful that my Mom had HOGS to go to, she received very good care, respect, and peaceful days. It is a good place for a loved one.
