I have heard that Mormons will help weary travelers. I talked to 3 people here. I told them that I was doing Gods work, giving a ride to a man that was outside of my church in Vancouver WA Sunday, October 11th. The man was going to leave in the morning, trying to hitch a ride home to WISCONSIN with his two dogs, because they aren't service dogs and there were no options to get them home, he was going to walk and get rides when he could. Rather than give his pups up to the humane society. Later that day I received a message from God to help this man. I got him a hotel room for 5 days so he and his pups could rest and I could take them as far as I can on the weekend. I loaded them up and brought them to Carlin... I don't know why I chose Carlin but it was clearly the wrong choice. I drove non stop through the middle of the night and think maybe I just stopped in Carlin because I was nodding off at the wheel. Hopefully for Bishop Jones that was the case and he wasn't actually MEANT to help. His response to me asking for help was, (chuckle) "I am not driving to Wisconsin". No offer of advice. No offer of a 20 mile relay or even a 1 mile relay. No offer of ANY help... and I got the distinct feeling he just wanted me to leave. Unfortunate for everyone involved. We got another hotel room and then we went to Wells and I asked about 150 truck drivers to give him a lift for cash. Apparently trucks only go west these days. We tried all day Monday to no luck. I took him to a hotel, got him a room gave him $300 and asked him to start very early in the morning with a sign I made for him. I'm very worried about his one pup that is very sick. He loves those dogs very much, and they love him very much. If anyone in this congregation wants to try and help this man he is in Wells and will be trying again in the morning. Temps are 26° at night tonight, and while he seems like he's up for the challenge one of his pups is not. I feel like my part was done... I feel like God was pushing me to head home. I did my part. Although the first two people I talked to were very nice and seemed like they thought the bishop would help... I will not be asking Mormons for help again in the future. Hebrews 13:2: "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares". This is often cited in the context of providing for those in need and showing hospitality to strangers. Matthew 25:35-40: In this passage, Jesus speaks of a judgment where people are rewarded for showing compassion to the hungry, thirsty, or stranger, and the prophet Joseph Smith references this in the hymn "A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief". Luke 10:30-37: The parable of the Good Samaritan is a foundational story about helping a "weary traveler" who has been left for dead on the side of the road. It teaches that one should show mercy to all who are in need, even those of different backgrounds. I am now in Winnemucca getting some rest for the rest of the ride home. I can't stop thinking about this man and I'm considering turning around and going back. Thanks. 🙏
