Berardinelli took care of both of our parents, almost two decades apart, and both times they were wonderful to work with. At a time of grief it was a relief to be able to turn to assistance from a business who has earned your trust and who continues to be worthy of it. Most recently we worked with Jeff whose kind professionalism was invaluable in helping us make difficult decisions on an extremely narrow timeline. He explained processes clearly to us so that we were able to arrive at appointments prepared with all of the required information and paperwork.
Jeff was very accommodating and able to make rapid adjustments around our changing situation. He understood our needs and did everything he could to assist us. He was generous with his time, accessible, and never made us feel rushed. Jeff worked minor miracles in expediting paperwork and working around our schedule so that those who wanted to say goodbye to our father could do so.
We were extremely comforted by how natural and peaceful our father looked, and it was healing to be able to spend time with him in the peaceful environment of Berardinelli’s Visitation Room. We are grateful for the support that Berardinelli has provided to our family over the years.

The whole process so far has been very easy and the gentlemen who picked-up my husbands body, after he passed, were very king and respectful.
The meeting that I had with Jeff Cruz went very well and he made it easy to get the arrangements in place for my husband's body to be embalmed and shipped out of state for burial.
I recommend Berardinelli Family Funeral Service as a business that is professional and sensitive to the family's needs.

Jeff was born for what he does at Bernardinelli. He was kind, understanding, and a great comfort to me and my family during our most trying time. I would recommend your funeral home, and only your funeral home, to anyone in like circumstances. I’m comforted knowing that when my time comes Bernardinelli will be there to guide my family through their grief.
Frequently Asked Questions About Berardinelli Family Funeral Service
If I am cremated, can I be buried with my spouse even if he or she was in a casket?
Yes — Depending upon the cemetery's policy, you may be able to save a grave space by having the cremains buried on top of the casketed remains of your spouse, or utilize the space provided next to him/her. Many cemeteries allow for multiple cremated remains to be interred in a single grave space.
What do I need to know about income tax when I lose a spouse?
Uncertainty about income tax issues can add to the stress experienced from the death of a spouse. You should meet with your family attorney and/or tax advisor as soon as possible to review your particular tax and estate circumstances. Bring a detailed list of your questions to the meeting. If you do not have an attorney or tax advisor, call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 for answers to specific tax questions.
Is there financial help if I need it?
There are a number of options available, including:
Determine if the deceased person qualifies for any entitlements. Check with the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and with your State Fund. Many people are entitled to get financial assistance with their funeral costs from these agencies if they qualify.
Review all insurance policies the deceased person has, including life insurance. Some life insurance policies have coverage clauses for funeral related costs.
Find local charities providing financial help for funeral expenses. Search for non profit organizations and for churches in your area.
Talk to your funeral director about cremation options - these can be much less expensive depending on your choices.
Do we need to have an obituary notice and what is included in one?
It is highly recommended to have an obituary notice that is either posted in a local newspaper or online. An obituary lets the public know that a death has occurred and provides them with information about the service. Obituaries generally include the deceased’s full name, age, city, and date of birth, as well as the city they were living in when they died. It also includes the name of the deceased’s spouse, along with the names of anyone else significant in their lives, such as parents, children, or grandchildren. Space may be limited in a newspaper obituary, but you might also wish to include a short sentiment on the life and legacy of the deceased. An online obituary or memorial website offers you the chance to add a lot more about the deceased.
What is embalming and what purpose does it serve?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body. It also slows down the decomposition process and enhances the appearance of a body impacted by a traumatic death or illness. Embalming gives time to the family of the deceased to arrange a service and allows for the possibility of an open-casket viewing.
Can cremated remains be buried with a spouse who was casketed?
Yes, depending on the cemetery's policy, cremains can often be buried on top of casketed remains or next to the spouse. Multiple cremated remains can usually be interred in a single grave space.
What should I know about income tax after losing a spouse?
You should consult with a family attorney or tax advisor promptly to review your tax and estate situation and bring a detailed list of questions. The IRS also offers support at 800-829-1040 for specific tax questions.
Are there financial assistance options for funeral expenses?
Yes, options include checking entitlements via Social Security, Veterans Affairs, state funds, reviewing life insurance policies, seeking local charities and churches, and discussing affordable cremation options with the funeral director.
Is placing an obituary necessary and what information does it include?
While not legally required, it's highly recommended to post an obituary in a local newspaper or online. It typically includes the deceased's full name, age, birth and death details, family members, and a sentiment about their life and legacy.
What is embalming and why is it done?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body, slows decomposition, and improves appearance, especially after traumatic death or illness. It allows more time to arrange services and for open-casket viewings.
