About

Church
*Please visit the temple website for open hours and appointments.* Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the "sealing" of families for eternity. Temples serve as the only place where ceremonies such as baptism and eternal marriage can be performed on behalf of those who have died. Temples point Latter-day Saints to Jesus Christ and their eventual life with Him.

I lived in the Albuquerque temple district for just over two years but during that time I wasn't able to make it to the temple. It's a sad reflection on myself and not this temple. On a recent road trip I decided it was time to stop in and finally put the Albuquerque temple on my list. My daughter did baptisms while my wife and I did an endowment session. My daughter reported back as having a wonderful experience and had nothing but positive things to say. We did see a few folks from our old ward while in the temple. One recognized us and made and effort to say hello to my wife, which was super nice. The others didn't see us and we weren't in a position to stop them to say hello. It was nice to see them nonetheless. One thing I noticed about the Albuquerque temple was the intense explosion of symbolism. It wasn't just the local or native symbols, which were very prevalent and highly noticeable throughout the temple, but it was also the prevalence of the eight pointed star, the seal of Melchizedek, and the compass which caught my eye, each of them with their own wonderful, and multivalent, symbolism. Not only was I highly impressed with the temple itself but I have to say that the Albuquerque temple workers are top notch. I felt as if they gave me the time to be in the temple, and experience the temple, without feeling like I was being rushed through. Some temples have procedures which have made me feel as if I was welcome but needed to hurry. Albuquerque did not have that feeling at all. It was restful and wonderful. The spiritual experiences to be had here are amazing!

I've been going here regularly since 2009. You have to have a recommend to get inside but the grounds are open to anyone. It is a sacred place so enjoy quietly, but feel free to visit. The landscaping is always lovely and there are mangers at Christmas. This is where members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints go to make covenants with God and perform ordinances for deceased ancestors. There's also a distribution center here for those needing to purchase temple or covenantal clothing. Also sweet supplies for Family Home Evening like coloring books and Tabernacle Choir albums. Materials are available in Spanish.
