Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the "sealing" of families for eternity. Temples serve as the only place where ceremonies such as baptism and eternal marriage can be performed on behalf of those who have died. Temples point Latter-day Saints to Jesus Christ and their eventual life with Him.

The Albuquerque New Mexico Temple feels deeply grounded and peaceful, reflecting the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region. One particular aspect of this temple is how it serves members from diverse backgrounds, reminding me that the gospel unites all people. Inside the temple, as I participated in sacred ordinances, I felt a strong impression that God knows me personally. The Spirit was calm but powerful, confirming that the covenants made there truly bind us to Christ. My testimony grew stronger as I felt reassurance that eternal families are not just doctrine, but a divine reality. Leaving the temple, I felt spiritually centered and confident that what happens inside is sacred and guided by Heaven.

I lived in the Albuquerque temple district for just over two years but during that time I wasn't able to make it to the temple. It's a sad reflection on myself and not this temple. On a recent road trip I decided it was time to stop in and finally put the Albuquerque temple on my list. My daughter did baptisms while my wife and I did an endowment session. My daughter reported back as having a wonderful experience and had nothing but positive things to say.
We did see a few folks from our old ward while in the temple. One recognized us and made and effort to say hello to my wife, which was super nice. The others didn't see us and we weren't in a position to stop them to say hello. It was nice to see them nonetheless.
One thing I noticed about the Albuquerque temple was the intense explosion of symbolism. It wasn't just the local or native symbols, which were very prevalent and highly noticeable throughout the temple, but it was also the prevalence of the eight pointed star, the seal of Melchizedek, and the compass which caught my eye, each of them with their own wonderful, and multivalent, symbolism.
Not only was I highly impressed with the temple itself but I have to say that the Albuquerque temple workers are top notch. I felt as if they gave me the time to be in the temple, and experience the temple, without feeling like I was being rushed through. Some temples have procedures which have made me feel as if I was welcome but needed to hurry. Albuquerque did not have that feeling at all. It was restful and wonderful. The spiritual experiences to be had here are amazing!
