- FWFrances WiltsieApr 8, 20195.0Wonderful small Catholic church with a vibrant community. Largest group are older, not native to the Carolinas and theologically fairly conservative. There is also a small but solid presence of young families, including home schooler's and a strong Faith Formation program for children and adolescents. A vibrant Hispanic community has existed for over 10 years, with the Mass celebrated in Spanish at 12:30. The parish has a history of strong, articulate priests, residing and serving at St John's, while engaged in other part time service for the Diocese or advanced studies. This has blessed us with wonderful teaching, preaching and guidance. The music ministry is strong. Our negatives are a real shortage of parking, a church building we love but fill to overflowing at times, and a parish hall that is not easily accessible to the physically challenged. However, a wheelchair accessible bathroom was added on the main level of the church a few years ago and this main level has a roll-in entry at the side door to the sanctuary. The main entry has several low steps.
