My mother has called Beehive Homes home for a couple of years now, and I couldn't be happier with the care she receives. Even though I live out of state and only visit a few times a year, the staff always makes me feel like family. They are incredibly pleasant, attentive, and caring. I especially love that they always welcome me to join them for meals whenever I’m in town—it makes my visits so much more special.

We unfortunately had to move our Dad out of his home because his dementia had become too much for us to handle. We selected the memory care unit, house 5 at the BeeHive Home in Missoula because it seemed homey, everyone seemed really friendly, and it was the least expensive home. We were told that the first two weeks would be an adjustment for him, but as soon as he got past that he would get along well with the other men and would do fine. That would never happen! Dad was a kind old man, he loved people but he was very angry about being put in the home so he acted out. The administration and staff should have known how to de-escalate the situation, instead they made it worse and behaved as if they had never had a disruptive patient that was in the end stage of dementia. We later learned from the professionals that took care of Dad after his stay at the BeeHive Home that Dad’s behavior, even though bad, was not uncommon and that the BeeHive Home did not have the training to deal with those situations. We fully understood why the administration and staff at BeeHive would be upset with Dad and that his behavior was unacceptable, but they did not handle him with any level of professionalism or depth of knowledge. They would let him sleep all morning, so he would miss breakfast and then tell him he would have to wait until lunch to eat. He couldn’t even have coffee because that was only served with breakfast. They would then give him another dose of whatever the drug was used to mellow him out, which would then make him sleep through lunch. He complained about being hungry every time we went to see him. He lost 20 lbs. in the three weeks that he was there. Dad’s bathroom floor had a huge pool of urine on the floor every time we went to see him. He hadn't been given a shower the whole time he was there. Dad was very thin and cold all the time, but they still refused to cover the vent or to turn off the air conditioning which was still blowing in his room clear into the second week in October. They left the shade shut in his room all day long trying to get him to just sleep the day away. Dad was used to walking at least a mile everyday, but after the first week he could no longer walk, feed himself and he didn’t smile anymore. After two weeks he could no longer carry on a conversation. He had bruises all over his body, his knees were raw from falling down, he had cuts on his head, hands and face, and he had a soft ball sized lump on his lower back by his kidney where he had fallen on something. We understand that working in the memory care unit is a very hard and demanding job. We have the utmost respect for the people that enjoy working with the elderly, especially dementia residents, so we entrusted the BeeHive home to take care of Dad and they broke that trust. We regret having put our Dad through that and that we waited three weeks to remove him and send him to another home. If we could go back, we would never send him there!
