Wow! Is all I can say about my recent experience with Bagnasco and Calcaterra Funeral Home in St. Clair Shores. Everyone was extremely helpful, kind, respectful, and went above & beyond. It made the worst days of my life thus far, laying my spouse to rest, very calm and organized, even while I was beset with grief. Shout out to Mr. Matthew Manzella, for all the organizing, and efforts. I had been through 4 months of home care Hospice of my spouse, just prior to the Funeral, so organizing a get-together of any kind was furthest from my thoughts. All the folks at Bagnasco and Calcaterra made it much more tolerable for me by flexing their expertise muscles. Can definitely recommend these folks & this business.

I came to Andi months ago to exhume my father’s remains so I can send him home to my village in Albania. She was the only funeral director that took the time to explain everything in detail about the process. She was amazing!!! It took some time but she got it done and now my father is at rest back home. Thank you Andi

They guided us every step of the way during this heartbreaking journey of our final GoodBye. My family has experienced their support and professionalism through 4 Funerals. My son, Griffin Delamielleure, my only child. I woke up early morning on October 23rd, 2023, to find my 20 year-old son in his room, already gone. Minutes later, my home was filled with medical responders, detectives & police officers who, (very kindly) escorted me away from Griffin back to my bedroom. As soon as my husband got home an officer suggested he go into our room to prevent me from seeing the coroner come thru. An officer followed my husband into our room & closed the door behind him, where he calmly stood, just blocking the door a bit. What I remember next was the sound of a big, heavy, very loud & long zipper. Immediately, I know my son is being put into what may as well be a garbage bag! (I had our vet here where my dog was peacefully put to sleep. The pet service we used for cremation had more sense. My dog was wrapped in a blanket. My son was zippered up in a tarp) The hard crinkling sound I was hearing, I just remember becoming incensed, unhinged, it was surreal. Now I understand why the officer was blocking the door from the inside. If I had known what was to come, I would have immediately called BAGNASCO & CALCATERRA FUNERAL. We knew we would cremate our son. Me & Griffin, I guess, thankfully now, did actually talk about this a couple of times so we knew how to start but not where to go. What I learned is that there are some funeral homes and/or cremation facilities that, after they pick up your loved one from the medical examiner's office, that's it! You will never get to see them unless you're having a full viewing & then cremation. We didn't think Griffin would want to be on display so if we had made the wrong decision, I'd have to live with the image I had of my son that morning, an image I thought I'd never unsee. But then I called Bagnasco & Calcaterra who helped me do just that. They picked up Griffin from the medical examiner's office & brought him into their care. Bagnasco & Calcaterra helped me to at least put some shade on the last visual I thought I'd just have to live with. They allowed me and a few family members into one of their private rooms where Griffin was waiting. Griffin was laying in a bed of white satin. Griffin was dressed in the clothes we brought. Griffin's hair was beautiful and perfect and Griffin was obviously very well taken care of. Bagnasco & Calcaterra were nothing, if not compassionate, accessible, responsive, generous and most of all patient. You never expect to bury your 20-year-old child and although our lives will never be the same, Bagnasco & Calcaterra has made our last physical goodbye to Griffin a beautiful experience and for me, a much better last visual. Thank you to everyone at the St. Clair Shores location whom we've met and even those we haven't, that have worked on our behalf in helping us through this impossible time in our lives.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bagnasco & Calcaterra - St. Clair

Do I have to make different funeral arrangements if I choose cremation?

It really depends entirely on how you wish to commemorate a life. One of the advantages of cremation is that it provides you with increased flexibility when you make your funeral and cemetery arrangements. You might, for example, choose to have a funeral service before the cremation; a memorial service at the time of cremation or after the cremation with the urn present; or a committal service at the final disposition of cremated remains. Funeral or memorial services can be held in a place of worship, a funeral home or in a crematory chapel.

What can be done with the cremated remains?

With cremation, your options are numerous. The cremains can be interred in a cemetery plot, i.e., earth burial, retained by a family member, usually in an urn, scattered on private property, or at a place that was significant to the deceased. (It would always be advisable to check for local regulations regarding scattering in a public place-your funeral director can help you with this.) Today, there are many different types of memorial options from which to choose. Memorialization is a time-honored tradition that has been practiced for centuries. A memorial serves as a tribute to a life lived and provides a focal point for remembrance, as well as a record for future generations. The type of memorial you choose is a personal decision.
