At Devanny-Condron Funeral Home provides funeral home, cremation, burial, memorial and veteran funeral services with licensed funeral directors. "Friends Helping Friends Since 1915"
Our Pre-Planning Services make it easy for you to get your express wishes down in writing, ensuring that you have the kind of memorial service you truly desire and that your friends and loved ones can have total peace of mind that they are adhering to your wishes. We host Burial Services that convey both the solemnity of the occasion, but also the joy that comes from celebrating the life of a dear loved one. For those who choose it, we also offer Cremation Services; cremation can be a meaningful way in which many families mark the death of a loved one. We offer services tailored to honor those who are military service members and veterans, as well.
I am deeply grateful of the care, assistance, and services that Devanny-Condron provided our family during a terribly difficult time. Caroline Sullivan was welcoming and very understanding of our needs from the initial meeting, the funeral service, and the cremation ceremony. All our question were answered with clarity and kindness. Her empathy greatly helped us navigate what had been a devastating and unexpected loss in our family.

The entire team at Devanny was wonderful through a terribly sad and stressful time. They knew exactly when to provide guidance, make suggestions and provide and ear to listen. They were professional and I felt like they were truly there to support my family and I, and to give our dad a proper send off.
What is otherwise usually a confusing process was simplified, and that brought me comfort knowing the details were in good hands.
Frequently Asked Questions About Devanny-Condron Funeral Home
Do we need to have an obituary notice and what is included in one?
It is highly recommended to have an obituary notice that is either posted in a local newspaper or online. An obituary lets the public know that a death has occurred and provides them with information about the service. Obituaries generally include the deceased’s full name, age, city, and date of birth, as well as the city they were living in when they died. It also includes the name of the deceased’s spouse, along with the names of anyone else significant in their lives, such as parents, children, or grandchildren. Space may be limited in a newspaper obituary, but you might also wish to include a short sentiment on the life and legacy of the deceased. An online obituary or memorial website offers you the chance to add a lot more about the deceased.
Is there financial help if I need it?
There are a number of options available, including:
Determine if the deceased person qualifies for any entitlements. Check with the Social Security Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and with your State Fund. Many people are entitled to get financial assistance with their funeral costs from these agencies if they qualify.
Review all insurance policies the deceased person has, including life insurance. Some life insurance policies have coverage clauses for funeral related costs.
Find local charities providing financial help for funeral expenses. Search for non profit organizations and for churches in your area.
Talk to your funeral director about cremation options - these can be much less expensive depending on your choices.
Does a dead body have to be embalmed, according to law?
The Federal Trade Commission says, "Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial."
Why are funerals so expensive?
When compared to other major life events like births and weddings, funerals are not expensive. A wedding costs at least three times as much; but because it is a happy event, wedding costs are rarely criticized. A funeral home is a 24-hour, labor-intensive business, with extensive facilities (viewing rooms, chapels, limousines, hearses, etc.), these expenses must be factored into the cost of a funeral.
Additionally, the cost of a funeral includes not only merchandise, like caskets, but the services of a funeral director in making arrangements; filing appropriate forms; dealing with doctors, ministers, florists, newspapers and others; and seeing to all the necessary details.
Do I have to make different funeral arrangements if I choose cremation?
It really depends entirely on how you wish to commemorate a life. One of the advantages of cremation is that it provides you with increased flexibility when you make your funeral and cemetery arrangements. You might, for example, choose to have a funeral service before the cremation; a memorial service at the time of cremation or after the cremation with the urn present; or a committal service at the final disposition of cremated remains. Funeral or memorial services can be held in a place of worship, a funeral home or in a crematory chapel.
