Teddy Bear Day Care has a lot of potential to be a great school for young children. Areas of improvement include communication, accountability, and training in ethics. As an English-speaking parent, the teachers could barely tell me how my child’s day went. I removed my child from this school primarily because of questionable ethics from some teachers, including not being entirely truthful and demonstrating bias.
My child started Teddy Bear Day Care on December 18th 2023 at 2 years and 3 months old. He left his previous day care because we relocated. His previous day care was twice as big as Teddy Bear Day Care. He was loved by all the teachers and staff at his previous day care, and he never had any reported behavioral issues there. This is very consistent with how he is at home, with babysitters, at the park, etc. He is a VERY good and respectful child. Teddy Bear Day Care used to tell me how intelligent he is and how he says “good morning” to everyone.
On October 4th, 2024, my child was badly scratched in the face by another student at Teddy Bear Day Care. When I went to pick him up from school that day, one of the teachers, who was supposed to be watching him, ran up to me and kept apologizing. I asked her, “what’s going on?” When I saw my child’s face, he had three scratches that tore off his skin from the top of his forehead to his upper lip. The incident report didn’t mention the teacher trying to de-escalate the issue that led to the event; basically, it was only the children’s fault. I took my child to the hospital. For several months, I had to apply scar-reducing cream and ointment to my baby’s face twice a day. Luckily, the scars faded away by the spring of 2025.
My child’s behavior continued to be great outside of school. Interestingly, after the scratching incident at school, a couple of teachers at Teddy Bear Day Care barely had anything nice to say about my child. He was treated like a liability. As the weeks passed, I received frequent phone calls for "supposed" behavior problems and minor, age-appropriate, things; other parents were not regularly called for minor situations.
On August 8th, 2025, I received a call from one of the senior teachers. I caught her in a blatant lie, and she chuckled. I called the director afterwards, and she unfortunately defended the unethical behavior that this teacher showed. I picked my child up from school that day and we never went back. I lost all trust in Teddy Bear Day Care teaching and caring for my child.
My child recently completed his fourth week at his new school, which is more than twice the size of Teddy Bear Day Care. There have been no reported behavioral issues. The teachers and staff frequently tell me how intelligent and lovable he is, which is very consistent with what I observe at home and the feedback I receive from other people outside of school.
In closing, the intent of this write-up is to provide a candid review. Some teachers at Teddy Bear Day Care are very good and have hearts of gold; one helped me potty train my child before the scratching incident. I strongly recommend that all teachers and staff at this school continue to work on their communication skills, show accountability, and take training in ethics.
