I am writing to express my concerns regarding Champions and the significant challenges that have arisen following recent changes to the scheduling system. While I was trying to avoid leaving a review, I feel it's important families in similar situations are aware of the issues at Champions. For families with shared parenting agreements, the new process is unworkable. We are now required to either pay in advance for time that does not align with our custody schedule, or spend extended periods (often several hours) on hold with customer support each week to request manual adjustments. Under the previous system, we were able to manage these changes independently. Additionally, the requirement for autopay has resulted in repeated charges for days when my son is not in my care--or for days where I already paid for care. Despite being assured that the schedule adjustments would be made by the Director and/or support, these changes are often not completed--reversing any prior credits. The burden is then placed on families to resolve the issues with Support, but as a single working parent, who is enrolled in school full-time, I do not have time to stay on hold for hours each week to resolve this and when I do talk to support they are unaccommodating and inconsistent with their replies. For example, I could not get a charge reversed for enrollment---but my co-parent called, and they reversed the charge on my account (which is separate from theirs). Although it was kind to finally do this, I don't understand why I was given a run-around and told no, and then someone else was able to reverse a charge on my personal account. This is not the first time that Champions has allowed others to make changes to my personal account. While my son does enjoy attending and spending time with his friends, the overall quality of the program is also a concern. The environment appears fairly unstructured, with large group sizes and staff who seem disengaged and underqualified. With these challenges, I am left with finding a new job that fits within my sons school hours--due to the limited after-school programs available in Easthampton and the inability to work with Champions effectively.

Champions has been really great for our family. The hours offer a lot of coverage when needed. I appreciate that they are there for half day coverage. I do wish though that during breaks, they had more hours. For instance, this Christmas break, out of a total of 6 weekdays that they could have been open when there was no school ( not counting christmas and NY day), they were only offering two days. I'm not sure how winter and spring breaks work yet, we have yet to experience that but I hope it's a bit better. In the summer time, they aren't open for the first week or the last week, and that's a bit disappointing too. My final complaint is that they have stopped automatically blocking off all of the days in the schedule that the program isn't available. So, if you aren't paying close attention, and maybe you didn't realize there wasn't school on a certain day so you didn't opt out of it the week prior, you're going to still pay for it. This is just kind of unneccessary cruel and an easy way to make a little more money off of parents that are already overwhelmed. To end with more positivity, all of the staff are wonderful, and my child likes being there. Overall, I'm thankful to have them.
