Guy & Allen Funeral Directors, Inc. Is sincere about helping families in their time of need. The company was founded over 80 years ago on the principle that our service is a sacred trust. We take these words to heart by maintaining a peerless standard of ethics. Still today, the legacy continues. We are a family that has been serving families for three generations. We partner with you to ensure that each and every detail of your experience is managed with the utmost care, compassion, and courtesy.
My grandmother’s services were held at this facility and unfortunately the experience was disappointing and disheartening. The staff came across as surprisingly insensitive given the nature of their business. The officiant clearly had not prepared he even mispronounced one of the most common names (also the name of a state, spelled the same) which felt careless and disrespectful. His delivery was confusing, making it difficult to follow what he was trying to convey. To make matters worse, instead of reading parts of the service aloud, he asked the family to read them ourselves, which felt inappropriate and impersonal for such an occasion.
Additionally, the staff told us we could not speak to one another during the service because other funerals were taking place. While I understand this is a business, a funeral home should still prioritize compassion and respect for grieving families.
Guy & Allen may be one of the oldest funeral homes in Gary but from my experience that does not equate to quality service. I encourage families to explore other options when honoring their loved ones.

The conduct demonstrated by Guy & Allen on April 25, 2025, was unacceptable and unprofessional. My sister experienced significant distress due to their repeated failures to provide proper documentation and her deceased father's remains in a timely manner, requiring multiple trips despite her disability. This demonstrate a serious lack of care and competence.
