A Disheartening Experience My experience with this church, unfortunately, left me deeply disappointed. I was initially approached by missionaries at a train station and invited to attend their church. Though hesitant at first — as it’s often difficult to find a church that feels welcoming and nonjudgmental — I eventually accepted the invitation after their continued outreach. For about a month, I attended Sunday services regularly and participated in frequent Zoom meetings with the elders. I truly believed I had found a spiritual home — a safe and supportive space to grow closer to God. I felt the people reaching out to me had genuine intentions and were there to guide and uplift me. However, something troubling happened. I was misled by someone I trusted into sharing my home address, which was later used against me. I was then told I could no longer attend that specific church or be baptized there — simply because of where I live. No alternative was offered, and I was left confused and heartbroken. It’s hard to understand how a church — a place that should welcome and embrace those seeking spiritual growth — could turn someone away. As a young Black woman navigating a life that doesn’t always feel secure, I felt safe there for a moment. But that sense of safety was taken away, and it hurt deeply. I share this experience not out of anger, but as a caution to others: if you’re approached by missionaries from this church, make sure their invitation is sincere. I truly thought they wanted me there — maybe they made a mistake with me.
