My mother recently passed in Georgia where I was taking care of her. I was left trying to decide what to do with her remains while grieving. I knew my mother wanted cremation, but she told me nothing else. My mother had dementia, and my father has Alzheimer's. I was left trying to figure out what to do with her ashes. My brother was buried at the Garden of Memories cemetery in 1981 in Panama City where my parents lived at the time. I had some divine inspiration one night wondering if my parents had arranged for their burials while handling my brother's. The next day I spoke with Charlie at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home. His calm voice was so soothing to my battered, confused soul. He researched it, and several days later called me back to tell me that my parents had arranged for space in the cemetery back in the 80s. He had to search due to the time span, and the funeral home did not own the cemetery in the 80s. Charlie was so helpful. A few weeks later after this conversation, while clearing out my mother's house, I found a family register where my dad had documented that they purchased not only plots but also grave markers for him and my mother. Again, I called Charlie who went digging in the ancient archives and found evidence that the transaction occurred. I am so thankful for Charlie! He made dealing with handling my mother's affairs a little easier. He always called or emailed me to follow up on all discussions, and he went out of his way to help me long distance with researching the archives/vault, coordinating a service, getting a chaplain, and simply just being there for me. This company is blessed to have a person like Charlie working for them.

Should I choose Burial or Cremation?
Burial in a casket is the most common method of disposing of remains in the United States, although entombment also occurs. Cremation is increasingly selected because it can be less expensive and allows for the memorial service to be held at a more convenient time in the future when relatives and friends can come together.
A funeral service followed by cremation need not be any different from a funeral service followed by a burial. Usually, cremated remains are placed in urn before being committed to a final resting place. The urn may be buried, placed in an indoor or outdoor mausoleum or columbarium, or interred in a special urn garden that many cemeteries provide for cremated remains. The remains may also be scattered, according to state law.
What is the purpose of embalming?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body. Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.

Is immediate assistance available when I call the funeral home?
Yes, if you request immediate assistance, the funeral director will come right away. If you wish to spend some time with the deceased before arrangements, that is also accommodated.
Should I choose burial or cremation for a loved one?
Burial and cremation are both options. Burial in a casket is common, while cremation offers flexibility and can be less expensive. Cremated remains can be kept in an urn, buried, placed in mausoleums or columbaria, or scattered according to state law.
