We have been sending our daughter to BrightPath since she was 6 months old when it used to be Educational Playcare. She's now 2.5 years old and she LOVES going to daycare in the morning. This review is about our experience in the infant and toddler classrooms.
First, the center is open when it says it's open. At 6:30am, there is someone here for you to safely drop your child off with. At 6pm, there are multiple staff members still here and still actively engaging with your child even though their shifts are about to end. You know ahead of time when BrightPath is closed and if there is any delay, you are immediately informed of it. The center is also really flexible with your schedule. At the start, we were thinking about doing just drop-ins, but that rapidly grew to full-time and we found the change pretty easy to make.
Second, it's not just that the teachers are friendly, caring and safe with your child (because that should be the absolute minimum). It's that they understand the needs of each individual child. Our daughter had a hard time adjusting to daycare when we first started going to BrightPath and each day, our teachers met her with comforting words and hugs until she was calm and could play, do art and go outside with the rest of her class. Each day, I saw my daughter get more and more comfortable with her teachers and now, I can leave her with the staff, knowing that she's in good hands. Our daughter is in her potty-training period and there has been a lot of support from the teachers about making sure that she sits on the potty when she needs to. The teachers also reinforce behaviors introduced at home such as trying to wean off a bottle or pacifier or encouraging drinking from sippy cups. Some of my daughter's classmates have individualized staff that come in to help with their own needs, and the staff at BrightPath are SUPER flexible and work well with the additional teachers. And you know you're leaving your children with the right people when you get unsolicited, unbiased, third-party, feedback from these outside teachers who tell you that your child is doing beautifully at school and having great days.
Third, they have additional enrichment programs as early as age 2. Our daughter signed on for cooking class, where they assemble recipes once a week, either eating or bringing home the results. I've had personal pizzas, chips and dip, strawberries and cream brought home and now our daughter is always interested when my wife and I are in the kitchen. We've also done a movement class and are looking forward to signing our daughter up for martial arts when she hits 3.
Fourth, the center is in a really safe area and yet is also imminently accessible right off Hopmeadow. St. John's Place is a secluded side street with minimal traffic (except during dropoffs and pickups!) and BrightPath has its own parking lot so you don't have to compete with other businesses or residents. All the kids and teachers are in the same building so there's no moving kids out to other areas or buildings. It's also close to the Farmington Trail allowing for some really nice nature walks (my daughter remembers seeing a woodpecker and a caterpillar during her most recent ones!).
A special shout out to Miss Lisa, Miss Susan, Miss Breena and Miss Kayla in the Toddler classrooms, to Miss Sharlene in the Infant room, to Miss Jess who runs the cooking class, to all the other teachers that pitch in (Riley, Veda, Marieme, Veronica and Sue come to mind but all have really been wonderful!!). And to Sammi, Suham, Kara and of course, Libby, the center director at the front desk not just for keeping us up-to-date on center developments, but who welcome us with a smile and greeting every single day.
There are a number of different daycare programs around us and after two years, my wife and I couldn't be happier with how our daughter has progressed and grown up in front of our eyes. And the people from BrightPath have been with us every step of the way.
They say it takes a village to raise a child. And BrightPath has been our village.
