***BEWARE*** NO transparency in billing care charges. Unethical billing practices. On January 27, 2025, we signed a contract for San Marino Arbors assisted living. Since then, they've been automatically pulling an additional $324 a month for care charges without notice or care plans as stipulated in the contact. There was supposed to be a family care plan review within 30 days of move in and every six months thereafter. In addition, there's supposed to be a 30 day notice for rate increases. On December 26th, 2025, (the day after Christmas), we received a back bill to September for care charges without any supporting documents at an additional $735 a month. In fact, Meghan (the Assisted Living Administrator that started just before September) made false claims of emails and phone calls that never occurred. She has not been able to produce those emails and I have phone records to prove that call never happened. It was only then the owners agreed to waive any back billing. On the December 29th phone call with Meghan, she stated the reason for the additional care charges were for medications over 8. The problem with that is her in house doctor continues to regularly report improved condition with a reduction in medication. She moved in at 20 and is currently at 14. So why now? Why is that our fault and why wasn't it addressed in the first 30 days or six months? In fact, we still do not have a detail of these charges after multiple unanswered requests. On December 29th, Lisa the Executive Director promised a conference call with Meghan at the end of the week or the beginning of the following week which still hasn't happened as of January 10, 2026. In fact, on January 9th, they took every penny from my family member in thousands of unauthorized charges in back billing fees that they had already agreed to waive. She has had no medical acuity that result in a documented decline in condition and that constitute an increase in care necessary to protect her health and safety. No requests have been made for additional services to be added to the care plan. No significant changes in condition that include TWO or more changes in her ADL status that last longer than a 14-day period. How would you respond if it were you or yours? What about other residents who do not have advocacy?

I have been a resident of San Marino for six months and am very happy here, especially with the staff. Jeremy is a server in the dining room who performed the heimlich on me and saved my life when I was choking and couldn’t breathe. Sue a supervisory in the dining room was one of the reasons we chose San Marino because she was so warm and welcoming on our initial visit and remains so to this day. Ramona, the housekeeping supervisor is the hardest worker in the place and keeps all the public areas looking great, and Kurt and his crew of Acacia, Jenny , and Jordan provides wonderful activities. Entertainment, and safe transportation! They also show patience and caring when working with residents with dementia.

My Mom moved into the Estates 14 years ago. (Independent Living). As her needs changed, she moved to the Villas allowing her more social interaction with other residents and staff. Eight weeks ago, it became necessary to move her to the Arbors for Assisted Living. I cannot express how kind and compassionate the staff were in helping us make decisions for her care. Comparing other facilities, the cost is reasonable and I wholeheartedly recommended San Marino Retirement Community.

We recently moved our parents to San Marino into a nice 2 bedroom apartment in independent living. I felt the best part of this retirement home is the wonderful people that help with all the things that make a retirement community a good place for older folks. We first got to know about this place through Sejla, the sales person, and she was and is amazing. Helpful, caring, proactive, and just fun to talk with. The people that prepare food, help with cleaning and maintenance, and the folks that put on various events for the residents and their families, all made my parents feel welcome, comfortable, secure, and helped them enjoy this time in their life.

Our mom moved into San Marino after we received rave reviews from a friend. We have not been disappointed!! Our mom has moved from independent to assisted to memory care - each move well orchestrated and facilitated by the conscientious staff at San Marino. The communication from leadership to the sales group and to the staff has been timely and complete. San Marino is a very compassionate and caring place where we've been able to sleep well knowing that our mom is well cared for by all the staff. We had toured over 15 places in the Denver area and none had the feel of community like San Marino. And we love the food, a rarity in retirement communities, as we all have eaten there with our mom. We are forever grateful that our mom ended up at San Marino. Especially hats off to the leadership team of Lisa and Meghan - we can't imagine two more caring people to oversee the care of our mom.
