I should have listened to Liz's review. For over 60 years, Valley Memorial was a local pillar we could trust, but that legacy is gone. It’s heartbreaking to see a place that once had a true community feel be swallowed up by a private corporation. They still try to market themselves as 'local,' but don't be fooled—they are now part of a group with nearly twenty locations across California, Washington, and Oregon.
They throw the word 'forever' around, yet they’ve reportedly cycled through more staff this year than anyone can keep track of. It's clear this is now about profit margins and corporate expansion, not the people of Novato. If you’re looking for the friendly, familiar faces that cared for our town since 1960, you won't find them here anymore.
No dignity empathy or guidance from owner
No empathy from staff mortician etc
No guidance follow up when Sharon left town
Untruth about available priest and use of room
Abandoned because use of a rook
Cal back from owner unprofessional and non proactive after promise to help
Pressure to pay overpriced pathology
Changed staff member 3x one left town two were out of town and I left with a mortician that changed plans to pay pray and l pick up but no plans for plot etc or memorial only pressure to pay
This local business was not there for us. It did not show compassion and in fact, they made things much worse for me when we try to make arrangements and the back fired.
I planned to spend BIG BUCKS on use of memorial room . Also to purchase a plot . I i needed to have the examination room and the gal I was working with name Sharon.left out of own unannounced and two ther employees were out on vacation so I was confused about what to do
I had to wait until George returned because I needed to make arrangements to have a doctor other than 8k on doctor who btw said he was not available when I called him that week.
I needed some more resources before transporting our loved one. But then the whole communication breakdown happened when mortician named Kerri got involved and pressed me to sign papers and close the sale tactics. Like buying a used car
Earlier George finally returned from vacation twho is in rotary with my father that made prior contact reassigned me to Lorena and to meet with her in the afternoon but she was too busy in morning. Confirmed. So I needed to go tto Parent Sorensen to see what we had arranged when my grandfather years back for a catholic evening vigil chapel that valley memorial does not have so when I needed to figure out what to do for an evening vigil. Carrie interrogated me why I was not in Novato after I said I wanted to move forward but out of town . In retrospect She did not tell me she was a former employee if parent Sorensen and most likely put off.
I still wanted to move forward with this plan to rent their memorial service room, exam room and plot which seemed quite nice I didn’t know what to do until Kerry came along and she questioned what I was doing cross examined my actions and she pressured me to be able to be there at 1 o’clock when she spent most of the time on the phone with me.
i was supposed to meet Lorena about priorities cinstead Keri never mentioned it and she made up fr O’Neill was around which he is not.
I also said she knew the priest to come and do a blessing that was retired and that didn’t make any sense to me. He is in a retirement home
She was quite morbid with discussions with her, and patronizing, and she almost sounded like she wanted to push the sale
. I was supposed to help me find another examiner, but that was not gonna be the option anymore
and then she already started filling up my mom‘s death certificate before I could even figure out if I was gonna be able to fund pathologist
Very important so then after this communication break down with Kerry, I had a call from the owner
At first I thought he would arrange everything instead opposite happened. Apparently, overnight now the room isn’t available for the next few days I believe to be this is untruthful, and on top of which their home model was were there for We’re full service we will guide you. We’re here for you. Was nit the case
Runaround
he told me the room was not available for two weeks cause they had a lot of people pass away and they needed the room for two weeks which made no sense
tso these people are not a big help. In fact they made a very difficult time very hard for me I had to make different plans. I had to go to another funeral home in addition to the fact that they added more grief when they were talking to Adobe Creek and that’s a privacy issue.
