I recently lost my husband, and I cannot thank enough, Veronica with Evans Brown Mortuary for the exceptional care she provided. From the moment I called, she was compassionate, professional, and patient, guiding me through this painful process with grace. She truly treated my husband and our family with dignity and respect in honoring him. The services were flawless, and she went above and beyond to make everything perfect. I am eternally grateful for her kindness and for allowing me to honor my husband’s memory in such a beautiful way. I highly recommend their services, you will be treated like family.

When my husband died in April 2025, he was taken to Evans-Brown. Two days later, my adult kids and I met with Veronica. She was very compassionate while she listened to us tell stories about my husband.
I filled out the forms for the cremation, and checked the box to get a lock of his hair. I also requested memorial candles from their 'catalog'. Veronica confirmed that (1) I wanted a lock of his hair, and (2) that she would find the memorial candles. I told her I would put together the slideshow for his service. Veronica and I spoke several times after our appointment, and I felt good about everything.
We scheduled an appointment for a couple of days prior to the memorial, to make sure the slide show would work on their system. I got there for the appointment, and the door was locked. I called Veronica on her cell, and she told me she forgot she had another appointment, and couldn't make it - but that I could just get there a little early before the service and I could check it with the gentleman who would be running the service.
The man who came in and helped me was very nice, and he helped ensure the slide show and the service went off without a hitch. The slide show played while people were coming into the chapel, a military honor guard gave my husband honors, and then we began with eulogies, with the slide show playing at the end. The service was lovely.
After the service, the gentleman who ran the service gave me an Evans-Brown mortuary bag with extra 'prayer cards', the thumb drive with the slide show on it, and the urn. I asked him if the hair and candles were in the bag (it was big and very heavy), and he said that whatever was there for me was in the bag.
When I got home, I found that there was NO hair, and NO candles. I called the mortuary the following day (Monday), and the call went straight to voicemail. I called *several times* and no one responded. I even left a long and detailed message on her cell phone voicemail, and I got a call back from someone at the mortuary saying Veronica saw I called her, and could she please get a message for Veronica (??). The message on the voicemail was crystal clear.
I called quite a few times after that, but got no response. Many months later, I finally sat down and wrote an obituary, which I had been unable to do at the time of his passing. I sent Veronica an email and asked if she could add the text to his obituary, which at that time consisted solely of his name, birth/death dates, and a photo. Again, no response, and no addition to the obituary. (I looked for it today, and now the photo has been removed, but nothing else added.) I had to make a lot of changes in my life, including moving away several months later, so I never ended up calling again after a few months.
Forward to holiday season 2025. I randomly got a call from "someone" at Evans Brown, saying they were following up with past clients about the services they received. I told him EVERYTHING noted above. This man was shocked, said it didn't SOUND like Veronica, he apologized and said that he would get to the bottom of it, and that someone would call me on Monday. If I'm not mistaken, it was the day after Christmas when we spoke. AGAIN, *I didn't get a single phone call*. I wasn't surprised, because this is what I have come to expect from them.
I would DEFINITELY not recommend them. They show great customer service at the beginning of the whole ordeal, but they ignore you the first chance they get. And adding insult to injury in my case, I at least was going to have a lock of my husband's hair, but nope - they just didn't follow instructions, and never ever responded to my concerns.

It’s hard to leave a review here and rating the experience/location on the service that was done for the passing of my 12 year old daughter, but the attention we received here I can never forget.
Veronica went ABOVE AND BEYOND !! She was always two steps ahead, taking care of everything !! Her over considerate behavior made us feel important during such a difficult time. The location was not dark and depressing, it was bright, warm and made me feel more at ease.
Thank you Veronica and staff <3 thank you for your selfless service.

Losing my dad was one of the hardest things my family and I have ever gone through, and choosing the right funeral home mattered more than anything. From the very beginning, Veronica and Richard went above and beyond in every possible way.
Their level of compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail was unmatched. They didn’t just do their jobs, they truly cared. They took the time to listen, guide us, and make sure every part of my dad’s service was handled with dignity and respect. During a time when everything felt overwhelming, they brought a sense of calm and reassurance that we needed more than words can express.
It’s rare to come across people who genuinely put their heart into what they do, but Veronica and Richard are exactly that.
If you are looking for a funeral home that will honor your loved one with the utmost respect, compassion, and care, I cannot recommend them enough.
THANK YOU both for helping us give my dad the service he truly deserved.

Our grandfather passed away in his sleep at the age of 96. While it may sound like he passed peacefully, which we dont doubt, the family was still undoubtedly grief stricken and stressed. Evans Brown funeral liaison Veronica Dykstra is amazing, she made the process as painless and stress-free as possible. We had so many questions regarding my grandfather's military background, and the type of service not only Evans Brown offered for service people but also what Riverside National Cemetery offered. Veronica was very knowledgeable and detailed, she coordinated with us on updates and any additional questions we had. Our grandfather during the service looked like he was just sleeping they did a great service for our family we truly appreciate the staff.
Frequently Asked Questions About Evans-Brown - Lake Elsinore
What is the purpose of embalming?
Embalming sanitizes and preserves the body. Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.
Does a dead body have to be embalmed, according to law?
The Federal Trade Commission says, "Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial."
Why are funerals so expensive?
When compared to other major life events like births and weddings, funerals are not expensive. A wedding costs at least three times as much; but because it is a happy event, wedding costs are rarely criticized. A funeral home is a 24-hour, labor-intensive business, with extensive facilities (viewing rooms, chapels, limousines, hearses, etc.), these expenses must be factored into the cost of a funeral.
Additionally, the cost of a funeral includes not only merchandise, like caskets, but the services of a funeral director in making arrangements; filing appropriate forms; dealing with doctors, ministers, florists, newspapers and others; and seeing to all the necessary details.
Do I have to make different funeral arrangements if I choose cremation?
It really depends entirely on how you wish to commemorate a life. One of the advantages of cremation is that it provides you with increased flexibility when you make your funeral and cemetery arrangements. You might, for example, choose to have a funeral service before the cremation; a memorial service at the time of cremation or after the cremation with the urn present; or a committal service at the final disposition of cremated remains. Funeral or memorial services can be held in a place of worship, a funeral home or in a crematory chapel.
What can be done with the cremated remains?
With cremation, your options are numerous. The cremains can be interred in a cemetery plot, i.e., earth burial, retained by a family member, usually in an urn, scattered on private property, or at a place that was significant to the deceased. (It would always be advisable to check for local regulations regarding scattering in a public place-your funeral director can help you with this.)
Today, there are many different types of memorial options from which to choose. Memorialization is a time-honored tradition that has been practiced for centuries. A memorial serves as a tribute to a life lived and provides a focal point for remembrance, as well as a record for future generations. The type of memorial you choose is a personal decision.
What is memorialization for a cremation?
You might choose ground burial of the urn. If so, you may usually choose either a bronze memorial or monument. Cremation niches in columbariums are also available at many cemeteries. They offer the beauty of a mausoleum setting with the benefits of above ground placement of remains. Many cemeteries also offer scattering gardens. This area of a cemetery offers the peacefulness of a serene garden where family and friends can come and reflect.
Can we scatter the cremated remains?
If you wish to have your ashes scattered somewhere, it is important to discuss your wishes to be scattered ahead of time with the person or persons who will actually have to do the cremation ashes scattering ceremony, as they might want to let your funeral professional assist in the scattering ceremony. Funeral directors can also be very helpful in creating a meaningful and personal ash scattering ceremony that they will customize to fit your families specific desires. The services can be as formal or informal as you like. Scattering services can also be public or private. Again, it is advisable to check for local regulations regarding scattering in a public place-your funeral director can help you with this.
