The entire staff at Greer Mortuary was comforting and reassuring while our family went through the process of saying goodbye to our brother. They are still there for us as we move forward. Thanks to Elyssa and everyone who stepped in to help us!

Although it was a very sad time in our lives, I knew immediately that I'd be in good hands! Since it was my husband, they worked with my daughter and she felt very cared for! I couldn't imagine anywhere else that would be, not only professional, but loving at the same time. Thank you for making me feel rock solid knowing everything was going to be lovely. I highly recommend them for your needs!

There are no words for how Christine and Elyssa treated our family during a time of unimaginable grief. They were rude and dismissive toward my grieving sister—the mother of the deceased—and handled the situation with a lack of compassion or professionalism. I personally went into the office with my 83 year grandma to get pricing because my grandmother was helping financially, and Christine was a little rude to me at the time. After both families had a sit down meeting with Elyssa and explain how both families were involved, but they decided amongst themselves to work with only the dad. When the mother went to their office in distress to get answers, Elyssa was rude and dismissive. Any grieving mother would be understandably emotional, and raising her voice after being told to contact the father and dismissing her as a mother! They claim that Elyssa was attacked and that wasn’t true! Elyssa could have handled the situation with a little sympathy for a mother that just lost her son! As a result of the situation they refused to host my nephew’s services and released the body to another mortuary without obtaining consent from both parents. If you're part of a separated or blended family, I would not recommend this place. They lack the sensitivity, professionalism, and training to handle complex family dynamics during tragic circumstances. Their behavior added unnecessary pain to an already devastating time. Absolutely unacceptable!!!

Frequently Asked Questions About Greer Mortuary

Should I choose Burial or Cremation?

Burial in a casket is the most common method of disposing of remains in the United States, although entombment also occurs. Cremation is increasingly selected because it can be less expensive and allows for the memorial service to be held at a more convenient time in the future when relatives and friends can come together. A funeral service followed by cremation need not be any different from a funeral service followed by a burial. Usually, cremated remains are placed in urn before being committed to a final resting place. The urn may be buried, placed in an indoor or outdoor mausoleum or columbarium, or interred in a special urn garden that many cemeteries provide for cremated remains. The remains may also be scattered, according to state law.

Why have a public viewing?

Viewing is a part of many cultural and ethnic traditions. Many grief specialists believe that viewing aids the grief process by helping the bereaved recognize the reality of death. Viewing is encouraged for children, as long as the process is explained and the activity is voluntary.
