I have been a devoted member of this church for over 20 years, and it is with a heavy heart that I write this letter. I am reaching out because of a situation involving my ex-wife, Chelsea Zurita, and Bishop James Olson that has caused immense harm to my family and me.
Over the past several years, my ex-wife and our children have become closely involved with Bishop Olson and his family. While I understand that church leaders often help members in need, in this case, the support was given solely to my ex-wife and children, without offering any assistance, guidance, or therapy to me as their father and her husband at the time. From the beginning, it became clear that the bishop’s interest in my family went far beyond pastoral care.
Bishop Olson and his wife appeared to actively encourage my ex-wife to form a close personal bond with them, which ultimately created a situation where my children and I became isolated. My attempts to maintain a healthy relationship with my children were increasingly restricted, and I was often forced to stay away or in uncomfortable circumstances during visits. My ex-wife refused to communicate openly with me and seemed to seek approval from the Olsons before making decisions that affected our family.
Most recently, I learned that my ex-wife and children are moving from Surrey to Calgary with the Olson family. This was done without my knowledge or consent, despite my ongoing role as a parent. I was never offered counseling or support to help reunite or heal our family. The actions of Bishop Olson and his wife have caused me severe emotional and mental distress, including depression, instability, and the loss of employment.
This situation raises serious ethical concerns. Church resources and authority appear to have been used in ways that benefited the Olsons personally while harming my family. What should have been help provided to the entire family became a tool to manipulate my ex-wife and children, isolating me from them and creating a situation that resembles polygamous dynamics.
I am asking the church to urgently review this matter and take action
1. Ensure that appropriate boundaries are maintained by church leaders.
2. Provide fair support to the family.
3. Prevent similar misuse of church authority from happening to other members.
I am not seeking to tarnish the reputation of the church, which I deeply respect. My concern is the safety, wellbeing, and emotional health of my children and the preservation of integrity within church leadership.
Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I hope that immediate steps can be taken to address these issues and ensure that no family is subjected to such manipulation in the future.
Sincerely
Brother Antoine zurit
