  My father has been a resident for about a year now and he loves the facility. The staff and residents are always extremely friendly and helpful. The most important thing for him is having good food, ensuring his medications are dispensed accurately and having an onsite gym. Merrill Gardens does a great job with all of his needs. Very clean units and grounds and plenty of activities to do. We are very happy he is a resident there.

  My mother lived at Merrill Gardens. One thing I observed is that on certain days, the staff performed excellently, while on other days, their performance was quite lacking. We have reported this issue on several occasions. We have also noticed that the staff members who previously attended to my mother, who were excellent workers, are no longer employed there. I suggest that cameras be installed in the rooms. At one point, my mother was unable to walk. A staff member essentially threw her into her chair, even though she was attempting to walk. The staff member remarked, 'I don't have time for y'all today.' This is not a nursing home. This incident was brought to the attention of upper management. To my knowledge, the staff member involved is still employed. My recommendation to any potential resident is that the use of cameras should be allowed.

  As I began to search for a safe and caring place for my Mom, Merrill Gardens at Madison was my first choice. I was impressed that the staff I encountered treated the residents in a caring manner and called them by name. There are many activities available for the residents. I have only positive comments about Merrill Gardens.

  We have been delighted with our experience with Merrill Gardens so far. Everyone has been helpful and kind. The faculty is physically attractive and in a great location for mom.

  This place upon first appearance, like casinos, is decorated to give the appearance of being warm and inviting but it's all a sham. Although there are a couple of caring souls in nursing and the kitchen staff, they are the exception. My mother was constantly complaining of things being stolen. I wanted to see it for myself, so I laid a select few items that "appeared" to have value, plus $20 and took her out for the day. Upon returning, mind you only Staff had access to her apartment, the $20 and a fake ring were gone. When I brought this to the attention of the Director, Lori Moore, suddenly everything was my mother's fault. This was in addition to constant medi al emergencies. I brought my mother and made sure she was eating healthy, exercising, and getting her meds as directed by her physician and the health problems and ER visits stopped. At $4,500 a month, Merrill Gardens is a cash cow to their share holders and your loved ones' care it NOT on the priority list. I do not recommend this company to anyone! Buyer beware!
