*By Appointment Only Monday through Saturday*
No matter your story, we welcome you to join us as we all try to be a little bit better, a little bit kinder, a little more helpful—because that’s what Jesus taught. We are a diverse community of followers of Jesus Christ and welcome all to worship here. We fellowship together as well as offer youth and children’s programs.
Jesus Christ can make you a better person. You can make us a better community. Come worship with us. Church services are held every Sunday. Visitors are always welcome.
This message concerns Matthew Norton, who I understand is a member of your church.
I want to be clear at the outset that I am not suggesting this reflects on your church or its values. However, I believe it is appropriate for you to be aware of how a member of your congregation has chosen to behave toward women outside of your space.
I work legally as an entertainer at a dance club. I am college educated, I pay to work, and I earn my income through lawful, consensual labor. While there is stigma attached to my industry, that stigma is not relevant to the facts of this situation.
Matthew Norton visited my place of work and paid me via Venmo for services that were provided. Shortly after leaving the venue, he disputed the transaction, which resulted in the funds being removed from my account.
At my workplace, entertainers pay an hourly fee simply to be present and available to customers. When a payment is disputed after services are rendered, the financial loss falls entirely on the worker. This practice exploits the structure of the industry and causes direct harm.
I am not asking for restitution or action. I am sharing this solely so you are aware of how Mr. Norton chose to conduct himself. I am not asking for anything from you. I am sharing this so you are aware of how he chose to behave.
This was his deliberate attempt to take advantage of a woman in a stigmatized profession.
This is predatory behavior.
Being taken advantage of in this way really left me sick to my stomach.
I believe accountability begins with awareness and I also believe that the members of your church have the right to know that Matthew Norton treats women as subhuman.
