Primrose School of Haymarket is an accredited daycare located in the Haymarket area that offers infant, toddler, preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and after school programs. For over 40 years Primrose preschools has been a trusted household name and a nationally recognized daycare provider committed to forging a path that leads to a brighter future for all children.
Both of our daughters started at Primrose School of Haymarket this year and we are so glad we made the switch from another school. We have been searching for the perfect fit and glad we made the right choice for our family. The Leadership team is top notch! Mrs. Banks and Mr. Smith are always friendly, professional and communicative. Every time I see Mr. Smith playing with the children and supporting the teachers in the classrooms brings joy to my heart. It says a lot about the culture and environment when a Leadership member is hands on and genuinely cares about the children.
Our oldest daughter is in the Pre-K classroom with Mrs. Roach and words cannot express enough how AMAZING she is! She is a passionate and enthusiastic teacher who is driven by the success of all the kiddos in her classroom. She truly loves to teach and enjoys what she does everyday. One of the main reasons we made the switch to a new school is to have our daughter learn all the skills needed to prepare for Kindergarten next year. It’s only been a few months but our daughter has been thriving and learning so many new things and we are so grateful for Mrs. Roach!
Huge Thank you and appreciation to both Mrs. Banks, Mr. Smith and Team for all that you do every day!!
If you’re looking for a new school, add Primrose School of Haymarket to the list. Highly recommended!

My daughters attended Primrose Haymarket from March 2025 to October 2025, and unfortunately our experience left a lot to be desired.
From the start, leadership turnover was noticeable. The director who was there when we enrolled left within weeks, and for a period of time there wasn’t a director at all. During this time, my daughter was struggling with biting challenges, yet the only communication I received were incident reports handed to me at pick-up and drop-off. Months later, the first formal communication we received was that she needs to be assessed developmentally. Followed by an email two weeks later stating that we would need to seek alternative care if the biting didn’t stop. This caught us off guard because there had never been a parent meeting or a proactive plan put in place to support her.
Overall, the school felt more like a “box-check” operation than a warm, nurturing environment. Staff didn’t seem genuinely invested in the children’s growth. For example, when I told my daughter’s teacher we’d be leaving, the only response was, “OK, I’ll have her artwork ready for you to pick up.” At the front desk, I even had to give feedback at one point because a staff member wouldn’t greet families as they walked in.
To be balanced, my daughter was safe there, and I had no concerns regarding her physical safety. My suggestion would be for leadership to take a more proactive role when challenges arise—working with parents to create strategies and support children through developmental phases, rather than simply advising families to look elsewhere for care.
We immediately pulled her once we were told that we need to find alternative care and since being at her new school, she hasn’t had one biting incident or even an attempt in over 4 weeks which in my opinion tells a much bigger story.

I enrolled my oldest child at Primrose School of Haymarket when he was three years old and my youngest when he was two. My oldest went through every class and even completed Private Kindergarten at Primrose! My youngest has also transitioned through each classroom and is now in Pre-K.
Over the years, we’ve seen this school experience some transition and turnover, and we personally went through a rough patch with our youngest and some behavioral challenges. That said, I can confidently say the school is in an incredible place now. Mrs. Banks (Director) and Mr. Smith (Assistant Director) have completely turned things around with their leadership, communication, and care for the children and families have made such a positive difference.
I now feel truly confident dropping my child off every morning, knowing he's in great hands. The teachers have always shown love and patience through every stage, and I’m so grateful for that.
I highly recommend Primrose School of Haymarket - especially under its current leadership. Thank you, Mrs. Banks, Mr. Smith, and the amazing teachers for everything you’ve done for our family!

Our toddler recently started at Primrose, and like any big change, the first few drop-offs were rough. It’s a brand-new routine for him, and for us as well! I was working from home and so he was never in any one else’s care other than my own so going from that to a full time school schedule has definitely been an adjustment for both of us. But the staff have been so amazing in making sure all his needs are met and that he transitions into this routine more smoothly. Every staff member has been so warm and friendly and you can just tell that they really care about the children, which as a parent is exactly what I want for my child. They really do an amazing job at keeping you updated throughout the day on your child’s progress and even send multiple pictures which we absolutely love!
Even in just a short time, we’ve already seen him start to come out of his shell and learn new skills. He’s more comfortable each day, and we’re starting to see that excitement in him when we talk about school and his teachers. It’s such a relief to know he’s in a place where he feels safe and supported. My husband and I are so thankful for the staff and the love they’ve shown our little guy. It’s made what I was expecting to have been a really hard transition into something really positive and I know that we did the right thing by signing him up here. He’s safe, he’s taken care of, and he’s learning something new everyday, and that’s exactly what we wanted when we were looking into different daycares and schools to send him. We couldn’t be happier with our decision!

I enrolled my son at Primrose School of Haymarket because the environment looked clean and well-kept. But I quickly learned that a nice building means nothing without responsible, attentive, and well-trained teachers — and this school failed badly in that regard.
My son was in the 2.5-year-old class, and the classroom was often disorganized and chaotic. During potty training, he sometimes wore both a diaper and underwear, and other times neither. He frequently came home with diaper rashes. When I brought this up to the teachers, they only said, “We’ll pay more attention next time,” without further explanation or concern.
The most serious incident happened shortly before we withdrew him. Another child hit my son on the back of the head with a wooden puzzle board, causing a large bump — and the school never informed me. What’s worse, I discovered the injury myself while picking him up — right at the school door, before we had even left the building. No teacher or staff said a word about it.
This is not just careless — it constitutes neglect.
That same day, he also fell twice while walking on flat ground near the classroom. I was worried he might have a concussion or brain injury, so I immediately took him to the emergency room. Thankfully, the doctor said he appeared to be okay, but it was a terrifying situation — made worse by the fact that the school staff were completely unaware or uninvolved.
When I asked the teacher what happened, she said she didn’t know. The director blamed recent staffing changes. But that is no excuse. These are toddlers. Proper staffing and supervision should never be so weak that a head injury goes unnoticed — even when the parent is standing right there.
Since transferring to a new school, my son has been attending for two weeks. Every morning, he asks:
“Mommy, will kids hit me at this school?”
And after school, he says:
“Mommy, no one hit me today. At the other school, a kid hit my head.”
It absolutely breaks my heart. I don’t even know how to respond to my sweet little boy — who is barely 3 years old but already afraid of being hurt at school.
No child should feel unsafe in a place that is supposed to care for them.
📷 I’ve attached two photos of his injury to show the seriousness of the incident.
