When we first started at Primrose, we thought they were amazing. Couldn’t have been happier, so much so we actively recommended them to friends, and sat on their accreditation parent panel glorifying how wonderful. Last several years have been a hot mess and painful. Staff is constantly turning over, most the staff is in and out. (Select teachers there were and still are wonderful- Ms. McCarter and Mrs. Reyes were AMAZING!) Half the time I didn’t know who my one year olds actual teacher was. When I saw who it was supposed to be in the hall daily and asked what was going on, she expressed she was bumped to cover another room. (For weeks)
During covid they didn’t initially enforce masks by parents or staff (Until two of us made healthcare department complaints), continued to allow parents in and out of rooms, and shifted kids to different rooms at their need to meet ratio. Consistently I found my one year old and preK students rooms over ratio and had to tell the front. Beyond this, and most importantly, is their response and reaction to behaviors. My child was exposed to the D word, S word, and called stupid F***ing (insert his or peers names) on a daily basis. I watched (multiple) children running rampant dumping toy buckets, climbing on top kitchen sets, putting toys on the curtain rod, hitting kids and pushing them, while staff stood there or sat with their back to them. When I requested a meeting to discuss concerns I was told no to any meetings with admin due to covid, but the same day had my friend call and request a face to face meeting about enrollment and a tour and was granted one no question. She got to sit in the office, receive paperwork, ask questions, and tour in person but we as four year primrose families with two kids enrolled were denied. I’m happy to share the email where I will quote “We also see these behaviors and aren’t happy about it either, but we cannot guarantee they will not continue.” As well as some statements about standing behind their families and students refraining from being quick to unenroll. These complaints and difficulties spanned an entire school year, with consistent physical aggression, disruption, language, and chaos, but nothing was done (They said they would offer additional training) and ultimately that was another teacher who chose to leave and seek employment elsewhere.
When my youngest was in the infant room, twice she was mixed up with a student of the same first name- one of which times resulted in her not getting an entire bottle feeding and going without a feeding for over 6 hours at 4 months old. When I called to explain I was initially told the app was correct- and I had to explain regardless what the app said- (which did indicate all three bottles) I had an entire full bottle in the bag. Another time she missed a diaper change due to the mix up and ended up coming home with a full Poopy diaper that hadnt been changed in several hours, and we received the other child’s clothes and diaper cream twice. I complained- they assured me there would be training.
There were many days my four year old would share with me having spent time in three different classrooms with friends of his only to find out his normal classroom had some tours scheduled, and they needed to reduce class size and sent him and a couple others to spend time in both the kindergarten room as well as the 3s room.
A year ago I almost pulled my kids when I saw an assistant teacher Get physically rough with someone else’s child (hitting his head into the wooden chair trying to yank him back to group in the 2s room). They assured me there would be training. She’s now a lead teacher in a room kids can’t talk yet.
I’ll end this on the fact that where Primrose had that magic to start, its fallen apart. The admin and the owners are not transparent. They are not open about what goes in in their school. They do not manage behavior or instruction adequately. I am an educator by trade, and the school is absolute chaos. I regret with ever fiber of my being not leaving when I first felt I should a year ago.
