  Lory’s Place saved my life - both literally and figuratively. When I lost My Person, I felt unbelievably alone - even when I was surrounded by people. Grief was this Huge, Dark, All-Consuming Thing that I was carrying every moment of every day, while so many people around me simply couldn’t see it, didn’t know how to talk about it, or just didn’t understand that it wasn’t something I could just “move on from.” Then I found Lory’s Place. For the first time, I was surrounded by people who understood. We were all there for the same reason: to actually TALK about the Evil Dark Thing that is Deep Grief. We could acknowledge the thing we were all staring at, carrying around, and trying to somehow survive the experience. And the support was free. Completely free! The quality of care and grief support I received at Lory’s Place rivals what I would expect to find in a much larger city or community (and believe me, I looked everywhere for family and friends who were also going through all this. They were all so envious that, in rural southwest Michigan, we somehow - miraculously - have this incredibly beautiful resource available to anyone and everyone who needs it)!! No one told me I should be “over it” by a certain point. No one turned me away when I still needed support. No one made me feel like my grief was Too Much or Too Dark. Lory’s Place gave me a safe place to feel it, talk about it, and express the darkness inside of me that, at times, felt like it might swallow me whole. If you are living through the Worst Days of your life, I cannot recommend Lory’s Place highly enough. Please contact them! Today. Right now. You do NOT have to carry this alone anymore. The support you - and your family and friends - need actually IS available. And it can change your life!

  I was pleasantly surprised to learn that, as valuable as Lory's Place is for our community members following the loss of a loved one, it is equally vital a resource for those experiencing anticipatory grief. I highly encourage those caring for (along with those who care about) people with terminal illnesses to seek out the resources and professionals who can accompany you on your journeys. Lory's Place can provide guidance and resources on how to advocate for/support your loved one as they manage their diagnosis while helping those who will be left behind better understand their own feelings and grieving process. I am so grateful for this organization and the service it provides.

  After the loss of my son I knew I needed more support. Professionally I have referred many people to Lory's place, so when I needed them personally I was relieved to have this amazing place to go. Denise knew exactly what I needed. They not only gave me a place of peace and understanding to help with my grief, Mary brought warmth and care to my granddaughter as she is learning to navigate this life without her dad. I can't say enough good things about the staff at Lory's place. We are so fortunate to have this incredible place to help our community carry our heaviest losses.

  Lory’s Place was such a blessing to me after losing my husband to cancer. It was a safe place to express my grief without being afraid or judged by others. The staff is absolutely amazing and caring. Thank you Lory’s Place. ❤️

  Lory's Place has got to be one of the most valuable resources available to the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor area - and all the services are free. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff and the community Lory's Place brought me in some of my hardest days. Everyone should know about Lory's Place because they handle the one thing that we all have in common - losing a loved one. And they are experts at helping navigate people on a journey that seems impossible. I am so thankful to the staff for all the support, kindness and continued friendships I made from my time at Lory's Place. This truly is a special place and recommend anyone who is struggling with grief to take advantage of this resource, you will not regret it.
