For a school that preaches Christlike values, the university staff surely does not strive to make you feel that Christlike love. If anything is wrong with your student account i.e. account holds, financial, insurance, etc they do not bother letting you know until AFTER they penalize you. Picture this: Your scholarship might be delivered late so you inform the finance department…BOOM late fee. “Hello finance department I told you my scholarship was coming pls take off the late fee.” …BOOM now you’re in collections. Please note the reason said scholarship was “late” was because the check was not able to apply to my account due to a typo and the scholarship foundation had to send another check. The check actually arrived right on time initially. They did not bother to let me know the reason why it was taking so long until I called in because now I’m getting emails (the only emails from them regarding this) that now I owe late fees… then collections. It was the fact that they knew I had a scholarship that covered tuition that arrived on time, knew they had to send it back and get another check and STILL charged me late fees and put me in collections. They don’t care about you. You transfer to a new college that actually offers your program? BOOM now you’re signed up automatically for their overpriced student health insurance because you didn’t clear that hold in time even though you transferred. Now you gotta contact 10 different people to get it fixed. No emails warning of this because they assume you’re born with that knowledge already or something. Not only do they just don’t care about you, they don’t care to learn how to do their job. Academic advising is supposed to be helpful, not leave you more confused on what to do next. What do you mean you don’t know what classes I should take? Is that not your job? While the morals and values this university forces students to live by are inherently great and wholesome, deep down they are just another corporation that only cares about money and status. Two stars because while the administrative staff is useless, most of the professors I’ve encountered are wonderful people who truly do care about the wellbeing of their students and make extensive efforts to help you as much as possible.

It seems strange to leave a review cause I went to school here 20 something years ago during the transition to BYU-I from Ricks. Such a great University, and the experiences have only gotten better. The campus is huge now, lots of first rate classrooms, apartment complexes with parking garages and restaurant all around campus. It feels like Provo did when I went to school in Rexburg, I am sure they have had growth as well. I teach adjunct online in sales, love the school and love inspiring the next generation of employees. I brought my daughter to the One Republic concert and just was in Awe in how big the school feels now. She is a teen and in the next few years will be starting her journey. BYU-I is now big time and no longer the step brother of BYU. Such a great opportunity to have an amazing school experience endorsed by the Church here in Idaho.
