- BBBeans BFeb 9, 20261.0I visited the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Northeast Philadelphia to explore a career in aviation maintenance, and the experience was misleading and unprofessional. From the start, staff walked me through planes, engines, and classrooms without explaining the program itself. During the tour, they often asked students to identify equipment and then explained it to me, as if I wasn’t even there. I had no prior aviation experience, and it felt like a show-and-tell meant to impress, not inform. Honestly, I learned more about the program online than I did on the tour. When I asked about completion rates, pass rates, and student support, I got conflicting answers. When I asked how struggling students are helped, I was told “that never happens because students never struggle — we help them.” I was also pressured about financial aid, and only at the end was I shown a PowerPoint explaining the program, which should have been provided first. One staff member also tried to personally relate to me in ways that felt manipulative, which made the experience uncomfortable. I was also given misleading information about licensing and career paths, including teaching, without being told about the degree requirements. Overall, the visit left me feeling pressured, confused, and misled, and I would not recommend this school to anyone serious about aviation.
