HEAD LICE. Yes, you read that correctly. My child came home twice with head lice in as many months. My child was with KinderCare for 2.5yrs and this was one of several issues. It was the final straw for us and we withdrew her from enrollment immediately despite not having a child care back up plan as my husband and I are beyond words as to how angry, disappointed and disgusted we are with this latest incident.
A scripted email went out to the parents on 12/22 advising that a child in another class had lice, was seeking treatment, they were deep cleaning classrooms etc. The issue is that kids/classes move from room to room a LOT.
We brush our child’s hair twice a day as is as her hair is long and we pay close attention to her scalp as she has sensitive skin. As a result of that email, we started checking her when came home from school each day. Her hair/scalp was clear on 12/22. The next day, she came home with no fewer than 10 adult lice in her hair. Within the half hr of finding the first bug, my husband returned from Target with treatment for the whole family. After that we thoroughly washing EVERYTHING and quarantined into garbage bags what we couldn’t wash. We all remained home after the holidays as we were sick with the flu. During that time, we continued to monitor our hair, change bedding etc. She returned to school on 1/12 after almost 3weeks at home, she was home long enough to confirm treatment had worked. We continued to check her hair/scalp but as there had been no further updates, we hoped the exposure issue at school had been resolved. School texts me on 1/20 to call them, they inform me that they think they saw more bugs in her hair. I immediately went to get her from school and brought her home for inspection. She had several stage 1 & 2 nymphs in her hair- meaning once again, whatever or whomever she came into contact with, was infested. For my child to have as many bugs in her hair as she did on BOTH occasions, there is no way that others were not affected. We notified the school both times and that was the only time there was additional communication to the parents of the age group. The teacher seeing my frustration when picking my daughter up said “yeah, they like clean hair”… as if that were a silver lining!
There was another incident over a year ago in which my child was bitten twice by the same child. The child not only was allowed to stay in school, but allowed to stay in the same classroom as my child. I was only told that staff was working with the parents on the behavior issues and that the bites weren’t that bad as they didn’t break the skin. The bites may not have broken the skin, but my daughter had dental impression bruising on her arm. There was a complete lack of follow through on their own behavior policy.
Kids are allowed to come to school sick- mucus visibly dripping from their nose, clearly not feeling well. But hey, they have a Dr’s note so NBD right?
Teach turnover is high- very high. We felt like we were meeting a new teacher couple of months. We were introduced to yet another new teacher just in the last week!
I did speak to the director about everything, she shared our frustrations and advised they had to report it to t the Board of Health, but it’s not enough. It’s obviously in the building and only the age group impacted is being informed which is horrible because lice can spread like wildfire. Many of the kids have siblings in other rooms. Based on how poorly this situation with the head lice is being handled, I do not recommend this place at all.
My oldest has been going to Kindercare for over 3 years now and my youngest has been there for a whole 6 months. Holly and Kristine made my transitions from maternity leave back to work as easy as it could possibly be the first time around as a first time mom, which made enrolling our second a no brainer.
Miss Yadira really takes special care of our youngest, especially with his eczema. His skin is looking and feeling so much better and he loves to see her every morning. I love the crafts she does with him and sends home, the fun videos and pictures we get all day. Thank you Miss Yadira!
Our oldest is thriving in Miss Jalissa’s class. He is a smart cookie and must ask a million questions during the day, but he comes home asking a million more. He tells us about all the things he learns and little things Miss Jalissa does. It’s clear she loves and cared about his wellbeing and making sure he’s ready for Kindergarten, which I think he’s almost there with the help of her and all his past teachers - Miss Yadira, Miss Kristyn, Miss Sue, Miss Lauren, Miss Barbara

Ms. Alex is so sweet and caring. She takes such good care of my 7-month-old, and I truly feel blessed to have found this daycare. As a new mom, I was very nervous about leaving my daughter in daycare, but because of my schedule I had no choice. I’m so grateful I chose KinderCare.
The other teachers are wonderful, and the directors are very kind and approachable. The daycare is always clean and well organized. My little one has transitioned very well, and I really appreciate the updates I receive throughout the day, they’re so reassuring and fun to see.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with our experience and highly recommend KinderCare in Hackettstown. ❤️🥰🙏🏽

My son has been attending Kindercare for two years now and my daughter for almost a year. We’ve had great experiences with every teacher they’ve had. We feel it is very structured, filled with smiles and learning everyday! We love receiving videos, pictures, and daily updates throughout the day.
Ms Flor and Ms Martine make sure our 15m old is having fun, taken care of, and loved while we are at work. My daughter LOVES them!
My son learns something new everyday with Ms Emma and Ms Lauren. He surprises us with how much he knows! He loves them both and is sad when it is not a school day!
Ms Kristine is the glue that holds the center together! We appreciate everything she’s done for us. We wouldn’t want to send our kiddos anywhere else ❤️
Our son has been going to KinderCare in Mt. Olive for about a year now and he loves it. All the teachers and staff are excellent, specifically Miss Ann Marie and Miss Kristyn in the toddlers classroom. We know how difficult toddlers can be and appreciate how patient and understanding they are. We love all the pictures and videos we get daily of the kids learning and having fun.
