05/25/2013 was the day I graduated with a bachelor degree in Nursing and was my last day I set foot in this school!! I was very traumatized by discriminatory experiences I had to endure in order to finish! I was very lost and confused thinking to myself how can a Christian school treats me this way just because of my skin color? I felt less human and I was very miserable. I was very confused because I kept on thinking to myself about the teachings of JC that they will preach at the beginning of each lecture as if they were practicing them to everyone but were only to white students. Whites students were treated as human beings with all the compassion, kindness and empathy, professors were helping them pass classes by giving them questionnaires to practice during the summer if they were having difficulties with nursing courses. Students like myself were treated like thieves, cheaters and they will put a lot of fear to intimidate you. Whenever you write a paper, they will always single out papers only from POC students and look for words that are similar and call on us for plagiarism and give us 0, it was terrible! There were 84 nursing students I believe and only 5 or 6 black students, the remaining were whites so it was easier for them to pick on our papers to look for similar words and call on us for plagiarism! We were treated with no compassion, no empathy whatsoever. These experiences really had a negative impact on my mental health and whenever I try to relive what I went through in this school I get very anxious as if I was having a panic attack. There was a lot of fear going to Bethel as POC, the nursing department back in 2013 were 99% white females, and if you are a Poc female, it was a danger zone to be! Going to this school was the WORST experience of my life!!

What an amazing college! I attended Bethel through PSEO and had many great professors who genuinely challenged me to become a better student. I also really enjoyed the culture at Bethel working in the Dining Center as a server and getting to meet a lot of great people was a highlight of my experience.
Like anywhere, there were a couple of professors I didn’t love but who doesn’t have that experience? A few rarely showed up, which made it frustrating to drive all the way to campus only to get a last-minute email saying class was canceled or replaced with a simple “what did you do this weekend?” assignment. Overall, though, my experience was very positive.

In short, Bethel is racist. Unless you're middle-to-upper-class and white, you will be met with constant hostilities from other students, as well as faculty and staff. As a female POC, I never felt safe while at Bethel.
