Creme de la Creme is not what it's cracked up to be. This is the first negative review that I've ever written- you can see the many other glowing reviews I've posted- and I know how impactful reviews can be (much more so for small businesses as opposed to a large corporate enterprise such as this), so I don't do this lightly. But our experience needs to be shared with other parents in the community. The self-proclaimed "child care experience like you've never imagined" is 100% accurate, but not in a positive way.
Our daughter attended "Champ Camp," the school age program, at Creme de la Creme ("CDLC") in Chanhassen this summer. We toured the facility in January, and it seemed great- so many different areas of the center, a variety of activities, field trips every week, food included, etc. But when summer came, it was clear from the outset that the center was overwhelmed with the number of kids they had enrolled, and it was nowhere near equipped to handle that many children.
Aside from several minor issues that are pale in comparison, most recently, at pickup, our daughter's homeroom teacher informed my husband that our daughter was with another child in "Room A." But my husband knew that the other child had already left for the day because he saw them in the parking lot. My husband looked for Room A and our daughter but was unable to locate either one. He searched the outdoor areas and eventually returned to the front desk. Another parent was also trying to find her child. When reminded that a childcare center's number one priority is knowing the location of each child, the response was “Yeah, ha, there are a lot of kids here!”
That staff member walked thru the facility with my husband, still unable to locate our daughter, and they returned to the front desk. At that point another employee asked for our daughter's last name and began to search for her as well. Finally, my husband spotted our daughter with a teacher he didn't recognize and kids he didn't know.
This was not a small procedural slip. This was not a minor miscommunication or a couple minute misunderstanding. This was a complete breakdown in the most basic duty of care a center has. Since this happened we have heard from other parents and caregivers similar stories of children that could not
be located at pickup time. It seems to be common practice, so that's likely why it was brushed off as no big deal. But I hate to think what would happen in the event of a medical emergency? A fire? How long would it take to realize that a child went out the door and left on their own?
In a childcare setting, losing track of a child is a safety failure that could result in serious harm to the child and significant liability for the center. The scale at which CDLC is operating is wholly incompatible with the individualized attention required in the childcare industry.
It was obvious that my husband was upset when he left, but he didn't cause a scene, and we simply waited to see if anyone would reach out, but they have not. Prior to this incident, communication was inconsistent at best.
We also had an issue regarding billing. Our account was charged when it should not have been, for a full week of tuition. Instead of a refund, CDLC preferred to hold the money on account and apply it towards future attendance. But when the time came, CDLC billed us again.
We submitted correspondence outlining all of the above frustrations, copying DHS Licensing, and no one from CDLC has responded. We still have not been refunded for the unauthorized transactions and had to formally dispute the charges through our bank. But we're still getting random emails about upcoming field trips and such [insert eye roll here]...
What is advertised as a safe, high-quality environment is far from it. I encourage you to take your children literally anywhere else!
