I had a great experience with the BYU Idaho automotive program. My son drove a 2000 Chevy Blazer to Rexburg and by the time he got there the rear differential was ruined because the gear oil had leaked out. I had to wait to get it fixed (for several months) until the drive train class fired up. But when it did, they did excellent work basically only charging me for parts and supplies. The students at BYU-I had great communication skills and I'm very happy with the work done on the Blazer. Keep in mind that working on your car is first and foremost an educational experience for the students. You've got to be patient and understand that students could make mistakes. If your priority is to get your car fixed quickly and have recourse for work with which you are dissatisfied then take your care somewhere else. If you are willing to let the students work on your car at their convenience for a more than reasonable price then talk to the automotive department and get on a waiting list. Thanks BYU-I Automotive Engineering. Well done!

My first experience with them was 5 star. They did a break job on my Dodge 2500 that was a real money saver. A mechanic quoted me $5k to do it and BYUI did it for $780 and got it done in a week. I was so happy with it that I submitted my Buick which has a list of issues. The main ones being the drivers side window was binding up at the half way mark and the struggled to go up. I also couldn’t get the hot air to switch to the defroster. I had the defroster as my main concern to fix. The next day I got a call from a student telling me to drop it off. He had it for a couple of weeks and told me after all their tests they determined that the battery needed to be replaced. I told him that it was a brand new battery that I got in May. He told me that it must not have been the issue and they were going to transfer the car to a new class because they were running behind on tests. It was then transferred to a new class and I had to call the school to see if anyone was working on it yet. Another three weeks goes by and they told me it was fixed after I told them they could get a new window motor. I got in the car and the window was in the exact same shape as I dropped it off, them having it for 5 1/2 weeks, and paying $75 for them to say it was done. It didn’t even roll all the way down one time. I reached back out to the kid working on it and he said it could be a few other thing wrong but it was working at the shop. It just doesn’t work anywhere else I guess. The only reason the review isn’t a 1 star was because of the brake job. I sent them a email to see if it will get resolved. If it does I will change my review.

They were able to diagnose the complex problem I was having with my brakes. What normally would would have cost a thousand dollars, they were able to diagnose and repair for only 250 dollars. I have been impressed with their communication with me. They found the problem fast, and they called me daily with updates.
