Music School
KitchenJam Canary Wharf is a modern guitar school and music space offering structured, music-first guitar lessons for adults and young people in Canary Wharf.
We focus on learning through real music, songs, bands, and practical playing, rather than abstract exercises. Lessons are delivered through small group classes, one-to-one sessions, and band programmes, led by experienced professional musicians.
Our teaching is designed for people who want to actually play, build confidence, and make consistent progress in a supportive, well-run environment. Whether you’re starting from scratch or returning to guitar after time away, our approach is practical, encouraging, and results-driven.
KitchenJam Canary Wharf is part of the wider KitchenJam community, known for its inclusive ethos, strong musical standards, and carefully designed learning spaces.

It's great to have something start up in canary wharf that really takes you out of city life for a few hours. The sessions with Kitchen Jam have helped me progress a lot faster than I was able to on my own. The supportive environment encourages learning while giving you the freedom to make mistakes without judgment. Highly recommend to anyone looking to start or progress their music journey.

I checked out the incredible Kitchen Jam on its opening day a couple of weeks ago, and was blown away at how cool the space is! Not only is it aesthetically gorgeous, but it’s filled with the most wonderful people, both staff and people who are taking lessons! Such a great atmosphere!
I’ve known Darryl for around 15 years now, and I’m so pleased to see him passing on his talent and knowledge to so many people! I’d recommend him to anyone, whether you’re already a pro, or just starting out! Can’t wait to visit again soon!

I came to Kitchen Jam to learn guitar while already being proficient on keyboards, and up-to-that point I was constantly getting frustrated at trying to translate the skills I'd learnt from one instrument to another, even though my brain knew the songs/chords/notes - my fingers just weren't learning fast enough and I kept losing patience.
But the teachers here have been great at helping me break through my own self-imposed limitations. Being in group sessions that weave one-on-one tuition into partnered practice and then group jams has really helped me feel much more comfortable being a rookie again. Struggling by yourself isn't easy; it's much more tolerable, even fun to play with others and get to hear yourself improving as everyone you come to know over the months improve too.
The community aspect of the school is perhaps the best thing about it. I'm not just coming to my guitar lesson. I'm coming to hang out and jam with some of the same people I'll see each week, but I also know students from the variety of workshops and open-mic nights that I could attend. As the resident 'keyboard guy', I love attending the open-mics and playing along with whatever I can, and sometimes when I pluck up the courage, I'll switch to guitar instead and come off stage a little prouder of how much I've improved since the last time I really noticed.
If you have any interest in learning guitar or bass at all, for whatever reason (covers, virtuoso-playing, songwriting, etc), I'd absolutely recommend popping in, even if it's just to have a look around and say hi. At any given time you might find a group of students having a lesson, one of several homegrown bands practising in the evening, a children's workshop teaching a fun (and LOUD) song, or even just a few peeps having a chinwag over a cuppa before/after their lesson. It's perhaps the warmest and least-stuffy learning environment I've been a part of. It's great to find yourself in like-minded company.

I remember the first time I walked through the doors of KitchenJam. I’d been thinking about returning to music for years by that point. One evening on my walk home from work I noticed the sign on the door, and decided to finally get in touch.
My first introductory lesson was with Dan, and it immediately set the tone for what learning here is like: relaxed, encouraging and focused on helping students enjoy music.
My relationship with music actually started much earlier. I trained as a violinist as a child and was considered a prodigy, but very strict teaching methods eventually pushed me away from playing. I stopped altogether as a teenager and didn’t return to music for more than twenty years.
Coming back to it at KitchenJam has been a very different experience. Lessons with Dan feel patient and encouraging, and the wider team - including Darryl, Jen, Carys, George and Barry - create a welcoming environment.
These days I work full-time in a corporate role, and music has become part of my daily life again. After such a long break, it’s been good to return to it in a way that feels steady, supportive, and above all genuinely enjoyable.
