Really enjoyed my time at Kitchen Jam! The concept of group lessons crossed with jam sessions works really well, the rehearsal space is well organised and well equipped, and the tutors are enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
I developed a real consideration for performance - how to consider the group around you, how to understand and apply volume dynamics, how to respond to song narrative and so on. The theory lessons are also engaging and usually set up around some song with a theoretical quirk to focus on.
If there are any criticisms, it's that it can be difficult to get the 1-2-1 time you would otherwise get in a straightforward 1-2-1 lesson. What you gain in group dynamic you lose in individual focus, which may not be so much a criticism as an observation on the concept of group lessons. They do mitigate by being available for feedback any time via text, but there's obviously a limit to how much can be achieved this way.
Additionally, the tuition is fairly pricey compared to some 1-2-1 sessions, and you have to commit to weekly lessons for at least a month. You can commit for longer periods for discounts but the greater initial outlay can mean costs mount up.
Regardless, Kitchen Jam provides the kind of space that has become so rare in London as living becomes more expensive by the day. It's a real community project and the group of tutors and students are really supportive and sociable - I was sad to have to leave. I would recommend it to anybody looking for lessons who might not have the opportunity to play in a group or are even just looking for a novel way to improve.

Learning guitar with Dan has been a really fun and positive experience. He’s incredibly patient and adapts to where you’re at instead of rushing ahead or overloading with theory.
Some days he slows things down to build a solid foundation, and other days, when things click, he pushes just enough to keep it engaging. It’s only been about a month and I can already see clear progress.
The lessons are relaxed and encouraging which really helps when things start to feel a bit technical or overwhelming. Overall, it’s been a great learning environment and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a supportive, structured way to learn guitar.
