We had a great experience with Wicks. To start, the owner personally does the site visit to evaluate the space and give recommendations. He is very knowledgeable and experienced.
They have a great variety of wood flooring options. We ended up choosing a reclaimed wood for three spaces and it turned out exactly how we imagined it. See the pictures added! We did the den, great room, and master bedroom.
Mike informed us on all the important aspects to consider: humidity, plank size, direction of the boards, repairs of subfloor... etc. we felt very comfortable that our investment would be installed correctly and last. During the project they had to reinforce and repair our subfloor in order for the boards to run our preferred direction.
Another benefit is the in-house staining after install. The staining guy worked with us for a couple hours while we were getting the perfect pigment for each room. He would mix the stains on site to give us multiple different options to view in the space. This definitely prevented us from choosing the wrong color and from going to dark with the stain.
His staff was very professional during install. They seemed very experienced with the reclaimed wood and finished it so that it was as durable as possible.
All in all, we are very pleased with the work done and are happy with our decision to use Wicks. Mike and his staff will guide you through the process and prevent you from making bad structural and design decisions, giving you the confidence that your floors will last.
We plan on using them in the near future to redo the rest of the floors in our house.
Frequently Asked Questions About Wicks Wood Floors, Inc.
Why choose hardwood floors?
Hardwood floors are a smart choice for their durability, cleanliness, and ease of maintenance. They offer timeless beauty, enhance home value, and with proper care, can last for generations, making them a lasting investment.
Should you choose site-finished or factory-finished hardwood flooring?
At Wicks Wood Floors, we specialize in site-finished hardwood flooring for maximum customization. Raw wood is installed and sanded on-site, allowing you to choose a custom stain. In contrast, factory-finished floors come pre-stained and pre-finished, making them ready for use immediately after installation.
Which is the better option for your needs: solid hardwood or engineered flooring?
Solid hardwood flooring is crafted from a single piece of wood and can be refinished multiple times, often lasting 100 years or more. Engineered flooring is built from multiple substrate layers topped with a real wood veneer. Today’s engineered options are available prefinished or site-finished, and some can be refinished in the future depending on veneer thickness.
What leads to cracks between hardwood floorboards, and what can be done to prevent them?
Hardwood floors naturally expand and contract with seasonal changes and fluctuations in humidity. During dry heating seasons, boards may shrink, creating visible gaps, sometimes up to the thickness of a dime. These spaces are more noticeable in lighter woods but usually close as humidity rises. Using a humidifier can help minimize these changes.
What causes wood floors to fade over time, and how can they be protected?
Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight through windows can cause wood floors to fade or discolor, much like carpets or furniture. To protect your floors, consider using blinds or drapes during periods of strong sunlight.
Are hardwood floors a practical choice for households with pets?
Contrary to popular belief, pets and hardwood floors can coexist. With regular claw trimming and proper floor care, your hardwood will maintain its beauty. We use the highest-grade residential finishes in the industry, and the smooth surface makes cleaning up pet hair quick and easy, helping keep your home cleaner.
How long does a hardwood floor typically last?
With the right care, hardwood floors can last a lifetime. They can be refinished up to seven times, with 15–20 years between sandings, and often outlast your mortgage. Beyond their durability, hardwood floors increase your home’s value, making them a lasting investment.
Can damaged boards be repaired or replaced individually?
Our team at Wicks Wood Floors can replace boards damaged by pets or water. After replacement, we sand the area for a perfectly level finish and use a custom stain to ensure the new boards match your existing hardwood flawlessly.
How does wood flooring measure up to other flooring materials in terms of both durability and style?
Wood flooring provides superior warmth compared to other materials, seven times warmer than tile and twice as warm as linoleum. It is typically less expensive than tile and comparable in cost to high-quality laminate or carpet. Additionally, hardwood floors enhance your home’s value, making them a smart long-term investment.
What regions or locations does Wicks Wood Floors cover?
