Had a garage door spring repair which was great...separate review...though now I'm pretty sure I overpaid. The consultation for a new door was the WORST process. Getting quotes from two other vendors, the guy measures, he tells you what they have, you get an estimate. With these guys, they are gonna put you on 3 hour call with a guy in another state. The presentation will be a rudimentary photo of your door with a new door placed over the top. The door quote was 100% more than competitors, plus they will try to sell you a new opener and 3x the MSRP. They also offer 15 year financing at 12.99% which effectively doubles the cost of the door, in order to make it "affordable". And you will get follow-up texts and videos from the founder on some platform named Chirp. All in all, just a complete waste of time and a bad experience. Pretty sure you're paying for all the marketing and sales tool automation. I would AVOID!

Michael Brania arrived quickly and completed my repair efficiently. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. After installing new cables, he did a complete check of the whole system. He suggested a couple of other fixes but was not pushy about it. I will definitely call A1 again in the future!

Asked for a quote for a standard single bay garage opener replacement. Technician came out wanted to charge me over $1,200 for a basic opener.
When I said that was ridiculous and asked if he had just the remotes to replace the missing remotes for the current opener, he was going to charge me $120 for a single remote replacement, which I quickly found on Amazon for $9.99 (exact same model number).
I quickly found the new garage door opener model he was going to sell me online and can be purchased for $299. So, that would’ve been $900 in labor.
Either A1 is extremely over priced and their technicians have no choice but to charge customers those prices, or the technician was trying to rip me off.
Regardless, totally unacceptable.
My old garage door wouldn't open one day. Got a recommendation from a coworker for A1. Booked online for next day. Very easy.
DAMEN SALZMAN was the tech that came out and took a look at it. Damen diagnosed that my 20+ year old opener was on it's way out. After Damen walked me through everything, he quickly got to work on installing a replacement opener. In a matter of hours I had a new opener and my problems were solved.
I'm very happy with the work but especially pleased at the timeliness, communication and competence Damen employed. He explained everything and answered all my questions. There was no upselling or pressure, just laying out and stepping me through all my options. The pricing was commensurate with going rates.
Great job and thanks so much A1!

A1 Garage Door Service is going to rip you off. If you are sensitive to overpaying by as much as 400%, then learn from my mistakes.
First, I have to say that my technician, Michael Brania (he wanted me to use his name in the review) was very nice and personable. He admired my dog and we talked about his three cats. Seems like a very nice guy. I have no complaints about him. It’s probably not his fault he works for modern day robber barons.
The spring in our garage door broke on Sunday in bitterly cold, below zero temperatures. We wanted to get someone in as quickly as possible and A1 had openings on Wednesday morning. I know nothing about garage doors. If I hadn’t been so overworked, I probably would have done some research online and been warned away. At the time I thought I was willing to pay for convenience, but I didn’t realize how much that would actually cost me!
Our garage door is incredibly old, but I managed to avoid the upsell for an entire replacement. The job ended up replacing the spring, the bearings, drums, cables, and the brackets at the bottom that attach the cables. It is only a single car garage. A quick search online shows that prices range from $250-$800 in my city. A friend in another city paid $375 for the exact same issue last week. I ended up paying $1223.
I’m sure the job was done well—I certainly hope so for the cost! Like I said, I know nothing about garage doors. But I’m sure it would’ve been just fine at half the cost.
Do yourself a favor and search “garage repair [city] reddit” like I should have.
